“A great night's stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

We were looking for a room for one night during three days of wine tasting in the Finger Lakes. When I searched for rooms in Ithaca, most of the hotels were showing no vacancy. It wasn't until we arrived that we realized that it was the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen that was creating the shortage. We booked La Tourelle without any idea of what it would be like, but we were pleasantly surprised. The only downside was that we had to take a winding path to get there due to some bridge construction. The hotel was very informal. Someone greeted us at a small desk and directed us to our room, which was right off the "lobby." After we put our bags away, we went back out into that gathering area where a happy hour with free wine was in progress. I don't know if this is a regular custom, but it was a nice touch. Everything about the room was fine. It's large, and maybe not as soundproof as it could have been, but very comfortable. In the morning, we had breakfast in the little cafe across the lobby, and it was excellent and reasonably priced. There is a separate restaurant on the premises for dinner, but it seemed pricey, and there were better options in Ithaca.

This old hotel does look a little tired, with a need for a new coat of paint and such things, but it's still passable. The bed was soft and fairly comfortable, the bathroom was basic and old, but fine. The floor in the room does not have carpet, but is rather more of a European style with fake hardwoods. It's a clean room. In the lobby, there is a small restaurant with some fabulous Brulee French Toast!

I just happened to come across this place on the internet while I was searching for a quiet getaway and the reviews were great and the photos and website were beautiful so on a whim my friend and I set off to relax. We stayin in the Paris suite and not only was it beautiful and clean but it smelled clean and everything from the bed sheets to the jacuzzi tub to the floors was sparkling and fresh. The staff was soooo friendly and helpful and Both Simply Red Bistro and John Thomas were friendly with great staff and great meals (even for us vegatarians). Both treated us as if we were royalty, very respectful and quiet when approching our table. I could talk forever about the place... the amazing spa services we had and the walk down the buttermilk falls.. but my suggestion is JUST GO EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF :) Ive been home 1day and already booked 2 more trips one for this winter and one for next summer... im sure there are more to come as well.

Room Tip: I heard all the rooms had different but beautiful charachter but we will always book the Paris room...

We recently went to this hotel and stayed with our three children in the barn suite. It was nothing at all like the picture suggested. For the price point of this type of room, we expected a lot more then we got. The suite was tired, stuffy and dirty. The suite was very dark and little air coming through, the carpeting in the rooms leaves a lot to be desired, and had an oder to it. In fact, we all kept our shoes on the entire stay! The beds, although extremely comfortable, had bedding that needs to be updated or better yet...removed that so that just the fresh sheets that are changed between guests remain. The barn has potential...but it is definitely not there and the price does not reflect the type of accommodations that were provided. It felt like a major rip off and i would not recommend a stay in this room.

That said it seems that the rest of hotel and other rooms are of better quality. The location is beautiful. The grounds are very welcoming. The staff where helpful and very nice, and Scott really tried to address our concerns. With a little attention, the barn suite could be a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building.

Although the rooms are a little tired, La Tourelle is a lovely place to spend a night or two or three. The rooms are clean and spacious with many having a view of the pond, gazebo and neighboring countryside. The beds are very comfortable. There are several walking trails on the grounds. We were guests at the resort on a Sunday evening when a free wine tasting was offered between 5PM and 6PM. Seven wines from Finger Lakes wineries were featured and they all flowed freely. It was a lovely opportunity to learn about the area wineries and wines while mingling with the other guests. Only three miles from downtown Ithaca, La Tourelle is a pleasant haven from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the valley.

My husband and I booked a short stay here for our anniversary (which we mentioned while booking). When we arrived, they upgraded our room and gave us a free bottle of local sparkling wine for free. The room was wonderful. We also each had a treatment at the spa that was very professional and relaxing, and we both advantage of free steams/saunas that are available for all hotel guests. Grounds are lovely with nice hiking trails. I highly recommend.

I visited the spa with a friend on a rainy Sunday. We did not stay at the resort as my friend is a local. The spa has a separate entrance, which is easy to find. Upon entry, there are a set of stairs and it's very quiet and still, which sets you in the mood for a relaxing time until you try to find the right door. I opened a door that I believe was for facials by mistake (glad no one was being served at the time!). After figuring out the right entrance, we were greeted well, our appointments were confirmed, we were provided robes and slippers, and information to prepare for our services.

The ladies changing area contained a restroom, lockers and changing bench, sauna/steam closet and showers. There were small touches that were quite important. The lockers allowed clients to choose their own codes. There was fresh ice and water available as well as scented soaps and lotions (their specialty brands).

When we emerged, a selection of people were lined along the walls, which made us feel a bit special. Sort of like "...all of you...for us...? How flattering." We identified ourselves and the massage therapists identified themselves and led us to our rooms. I received a Swedish massage, which was good. The lotion used was out of this world relaxing and smelled heavenly! I have had many massages over the years and the routine is the same, but the people at the La Tourelle spa were really nice and solicitous.

After the message, we went into one of two post-service relaxation rooms - one has a fireplace and the other a waterfall effect. I chose the fireplace room. The room was cozy on a rainy day. A selection of teas and hot water was available as were magazines. The contoured loungers were a nice touch with blankets at the end to cover your feet.

Overall, someone paid a lot of attention to details, which makes this a great option for spa services.
