“Convenient Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I felt the $100 rate should have been about half that. They only have queen beds, and the beds are so bouncy it feels like you are on a trampoline when your spouse moves or rolls over. Not a good night's sleep for either spouse. Continental breakfast was not good either. Not very many choices, only pre-packaged danishes and bagels, and machine juice and coffee. The coffee was awful. The only benefit to staying here was the location. Convenient to the mall, and to a work party I attended. Also multiple exits made getting in & out easy - you did not have to go through the lobby every time.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2014

As I've stated multiple times when reviewing budget motels/inns, I'm not expecting five star accommodations at these places (although five star service should be expected wherever you stay), which is something I take into account when reviewing these places. That said, it is unacceptable that my room lost power during my stay for everything but the bathroom light and the AC/heater unit. Three other people in my group suffered from the same problem, and a third had a problem with his heater/AC unit. Also, the soda vending machine on the second floor would not take coins or refund the dollar bill that my friend had placed in before the coin problem became apparent to her! The continental breakfast was, likewise, lacking, which was a shame as a good breakfast can make even the lousiest motel somewhat acceptable.

To the staff's credit, they were quick and attentive to our needs, even if they were unable to fix the light and AC/heater unit problems; they also gave my friend a soda from the machine downstairs without extra cost. These are the only reasons why the rating isn't even lower.

Now, my review title explicitly warns travelers to avoid this place if they "can." As this is Ithaca where, depending on the time of the year, events at Cornell or Ithaca College can make hotel prices out of reach for most, Econo Lodge is a blessing for many, even if they do, too, raise their prices during this time. Even in those times, I'd hold my nose and stay here. Still, this advice is more of a reflection on the ridiculousness of Econo Lodge's competition's outrageous prices rather than the overall value the lodge itself.

Room Tip: Do not stay near the smoker's suite.

In a nutshell - this was a nice, clean, affordable hotel that was close to everything in Ithaca. The stff was friendly and very helpful. The rate was great compared to many of the overpriced hotels in the area. We were very happy with our stay. Free wifi that worked great. Free Continental breakfast.

Had seen previous positive reviews. Hotel had been renovated about a year ago. Many other hotels of this level and age, start to look very tired, so we were very pleased with what we found.

It was clean, comfortable and quiet. Continental Breakfast was good. Easy access to shopping and restaurants.

All motels in Ithaca varied significantly in price from Thursday to Friday in late September. Prices actually doubled which is ridiculous. The Econo Lodge was clean, comfortable and obviously newly renovated. However the breakfast was horrible, much worse than other competing hotels such as the Hampton Inn, etc.which also have no kitchen. My advice is to go out and order breakfast at the "Bakery" which is close by.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room.

Reservation cancellation was not properly handled and then all of the clerks lied about what each other said. The place is dirty and crummy, to be perfectly frank. I don't recommend it at all. I'd rather stay with in my college son's apartment than to stay there again. Enough said.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms; hence no tips to offer.

We have stayed there several times and will stay again. The people are friendly and it offers more value than other local hotels. They are refurbishing and we look forward to seeing the new carpeting done for our visit May. It's outside of town, next to the highway and strip stores, but it's not too noisy.
