“Four Season's Quality in a Remote, Glorious Setting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

For the Fourth of July Weekend, my husband surprised me with a trip to Ithaca and a stay at Michael Casper's Farm/Hotel. I wasn't sure what to expect, especially because I prefer being pampered and this was more of a "mountain/hiking trip". I NEVER thought that our accommodations would be as good if not BETTER THAN the Four Season's Hotel within a pure, secluded, and picturesque setting!

Michael was an outstanding host. Breakfast is prepared daily with simply the best quality foods and ingredients you could ever imagine. We enjoyed his gourmet cooking (tailored to your dietary preference upon request) and expert advice on pure and healthy living. We tried many new foods. Michael knows how to make anything (yes, even the most simple foods) taste ultimately gourmet! After we got home, we decided to try some new foods and ideas he introduced us to.

The accommodations were absolutely perfect. We stayed in one of the upstairs (smaller of the 2 or 3) rooms. It was SPOTLESS, super cozy, and top quality from end to end. The bed was superiorly comfortable! After a day hiking at the gorges, my husband and I slept almost 12 hours!

The grounds on this property are beautiful. You will most-likely see deer and you really should walk the path and adventure past the pond whenever the temperatures are best for you. Also, this place is close in proximity to everything you would want to drive to in Ithaca (downtown, parks, hiking, swimming, wine-tasting, etc.)

Michael is extremely conscientious about making sure you are comfortable and happy. Anything we asked for was taken care of and/or laid out for us.

If you want to feel like you are a thousand miles away, in a remote, secluded, and romantic hide-away...but with the comforts and catering of a Four Season's Hotel, this is the place for you!

We were sad to leave, but will definitely visit again!

Room Tip: All rooms are extremely comfortable, spotless, and cozy.

Deer greeted us upon our arrival! Fantastic hosts. The Gables Room was divine - spacious, great soaker tub, beautiful serene design. Plan on spending some time exploring the 100 plus acres with it's log cabin, picturesque pond and Buddhist Temple. Whatever you desire for a delicious breakfast. A short and picturesque country drive to Ithaca. A real gem.

We arrived on a Sunday evening. We got the Zebra Room. It's a beautiful room, and it was very clean. The showers were amazing; Yes, Amazing! We highly recommend this room. Michael made us breakfast in the morning. It was delicious, vegan (though you don't have to eat vegan there), and very filling. It held us over well for the morning.

The property is very nice at this B&B. There is a hot tub and a sauna. Very nice!! Michael is great. He'll made you whatever you want for breakfast. He tells you what he has, and you get to pick. The waffles were good. The Muesli was tasty, and his oatmeal is delicious!! The spread of fruit was awesome!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful and CLEAN!!

I had reserved a weekend at Michaels place for my girlfriends 30th birthday for a surprise! Let me start off by saying that she is vegan and I am most definitely not. If you have searched for a vegan b&b then you know that there are very few if any but Pure Food in new York. I also chose pure food because it is close to Ithaca and the town is very vegan friendly with many things to do.

From the second we arrived we could tell this place was very special. every building was made from wood that was harvested from the property and the 150 acres of land Michael has is amazing. We went to check in down in the main building and were greeted by Michael and a very nice woman. her name escapes me now im sorry. the "great" room is amazing when you first walk in. there is a huge t-rex to greet you and many amazing antiques and collectibles everywhere to be found including meteorites. Michael gave us a choice of any room we wanted seeing we were the only guests staying for the weekend. we chose the gables which is its own house. he gave us reign of the whole house which was two rooms and its own kitchen and fire place. ill get back to the house is in a minute. back to the check in. Michael sat down with us and asked us what our preferences were for breakfast. I informed him of my girlfriend being vegan and he offered her a wide variety of option he could do. hes also not afraid to cook a hungry man breakfast with and omlette and bacon and hashbrowns with toast either. he made a different breakfast each day for us and it was more that enough food for each of us to eat. to be honest it would have fed 4 people easy. needless to say this is one of the best breakfast she or I have ever had with everything being so fresh!!!

back to the room... the gables is amazing with absolutely beautiful hardwoods throughout the entire building. the bed was amazing as was the big onyx shower. we had a ton of privacy and relaxation was plentiful. the kitchen downstairs has everything you need to make a meal and all appliances are very up to date including a Viking fridge which was very nice. there is always fresh bottled water whenever you need it as well. there was also another room down stairs called the zebra room which was quite beautiful too. there is a fireplace in the common area if it gets chilly and the meteorites and antiques are also in abundance throughout the house.

after breakfast one morning we wanted to walk off our food coma so we explored the property. the ground are gorgeous and very well kept. the pond is a nice place to relax and enjoy a drink. we also ventured down to the budda way down the path which was very tranquil. we also made our way to the hot tub and sauna which are amazing after a long day of drinking and hiking and shopping in Ithaca.

I cannot say enough good about Michaels establishment. he is absolutely amazing and accommodating and so is property. everything is so fresh and comforting and its away from all the hustle and bustle even though its ten minutes to the commons.

if you have a chance ask Michael for his personal masseuse because I used him and my girlfriend said he was amazing. I suggest to do some hiking and definitely visit the commons for shopping and tons of good drinking and eating. one of our most favorite things about the trip was the farmers market which is the best one ive ever been to and blows the Syracuse one out of the water. everything is organic and they have tons of food vendors to eat there as well.

I hope this helps you choose michaels place because I would again in a heart beat and probably will be back later this year. Chive On!!!

Room Tip: gables or blue room

This past weekend at Private Hotel was a wonderful experience: luxurious accommodations, top notch food and a wonderful setting for unwinding. We stayed in the Blue Room and it was grand--great views, an exceptionally comfortable bed and immaculately clean.

One tip: come hungry! Michael's cooking is exceptional. Our breakfast was complete with oatmeal, fresh OJ, fruit, pancakes, coffee! He asked us what we wanted for breakfast and tailored the menu accordingly, a sign of true hospitality.

Ithaca and the surrounding area are naturally breathtaking, so you'll want to do some exploring while you are here.

We'll be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.

My husband and I found ourselves in need of a place to stay before picking our son up from university for the weekend and we stumbled upon Casper's Farm. What a great discovery! The location is convenient to town but you feel like you're a million miles away. We stayed in the Blue room in the Barn House and it was beautiful and comfortable.
Breakfast was fantastic! Made to order with great fresh and pure ingredients. No need for lunch that day!
Had a great time visiting with Michael and we can't wait for a return visit. Crossing my fingers for our son's graduation in a couple of years.

When we decided that we were going to travel to the Finger Lakes region for a mini getaway, after much research, we decided that Ithaca would be a great home base for what we wanted to see and do. While searching for accommodations we came across Casper Farm, and were immediately drawn to the photographs and that Micheal was a vegan chef (we are collectively vegetarian and vegan). When we called Micheal to inquire about the space, he was incredibly gracious and full of knowledge about the Ithaca area. We made the decision to book with Casper Farm and having just returned from our vacation tonight, we are already trying to decide on when we can make it back there!

We arrived very late Saturday night and Micheal was very welcoming! He and my partner had arranged a surprise waiting for me upon arrival, as a graduation gift! It was so thoughtful and Micheal went above and beyond to execute it beautifully. It set the precedence for what to expect for these few days.

We stayed on this unique property, full of unique history in our beautiful Zebra room. Every artifact, every photo in any space on the property had a story and the details on this farm is beyond anything we have ever experienced in our travels. It was so peaceful, and we left feeling rejuvenated.

Micheal and Priscilla were so lovely, and breakfast was all locally sourced vegan and organic, they would accommodate any diet and dietary restrictions.

The farm is both unique and incredibly tranquil, and we will recommend this experience to everyone we know!

Micheal, without a shadow of a doubt we will be back! Thank you again for everything you did to make this experience so incredible!
