“Quiet, Serene, and Friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

We stayed at the Cayuga Lakefront Inn while passing through the Ithaca area and found the accommodations private, quiet and the inn keepers friendly. It should be noted that there are some interesting quirks, such as the overabundance of ribbon tape and curiously large in-room hammocks, but one would come to expect such conversation pieces at a B&B.

The breakfast was actually quiet good, with much time and consideration spent on preparation, ingredients and presentation. We were late to rise, but were delivered breakfast directly to our patio, a nice touch. Wildlife abounds around the Inn. We saw turkey vultures, deer, rabbits, multiple bird varieties and even a a friendly cat on the property. One down side would be the noting of the hot tub, which is in a thicket of brush outside and swarm of bugs (lakeside on a Summer night = bring plenty of bug spray) that make it nearly impossible to imagine using as freely and openly as stated in the collateral for the Inn. Overall, it's evident that the Innkeepers care about their property and in turn their guests.

Some people exist just to make the world a more beautiful place, and this is definitely true of Diane, the proprietor of the Lakefront Inn in Lansing NY. Every detail was thoughtful, intentional, and exquisite. True artistry of architecture, furnishings, and food. I loved the ready availability of bird identification guides, paint sets, telescope with star gazers' book, and poetry. We were especially lucky because we were the only couple on the property those evenings, and it was soooo quiet--we enjoyed watching the deer, birds, rabbits, and fireflies, and walking down to the lake, and watching the lightning over the water. If an anonymous, cookie-cutter hotel experience is your thing, this inn won't be, but if you appreciate details, love nature and art and have a certain crunchy/craftsy bent, you'll love it. Diane gave us the free run of the kitchen, which was super-convenient. Everything was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. We didn't get to use the outdoor hot tub, because the temperatures were in the 80/90s while we were there, but that was a big attraction for us too--soaking under the stars. Several nice restaurants within a few miles' drive. Diane's breakfasts were awesome and unique too.

This is not your typical B&B with Victorian wallpaper and heavy velvet curtains. It has a modern up to date feel with an old B&B vibe. The room was very comfortable and the view of the lake was spectacular! Diane could not be more friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning in the near future!

This B&B is super isolated in a beautiful house with lake views. You can walk down to the lake in just a few minutes. The rooms were comfortable and quiet - it's a very private place to stay. The hosts were lovely, and the food in the mornings was delicious, especially the smoothies!
There's also an outside hot tub, and it seemed that we were the only ones that used it. It was a great way to enjoy the stars with a glass of wine and few of the lake.
I would recommend this B&B and come back again as well!

If you want a great place to stay, with a friendly host, and a wonderful breakfast, this is the place. Although very secluded, the lake front views are spectacular. It is only about 10 minutes from downtown Ithaca, and very close to the wineries and state parks. I would stay again, and reccomend to anyone.

My husband and I were supposed to stay at this bed and breakfast with my in-laws, to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy a long weekend with our family (who came from AZ to spend time with us). The Inn looked nice online. However, when we arrived there were several things that were not as advertised. First, the inn is nowhere near the lake. You can see the lake, but that's about it. Second, there is no security--no locks on individual rooms and the property itself is always unlocked. Third, the owner seems to have a pattern of double-booking and not apologizing (see other reviews for this name and Lakefront Inn). We were double-booked with another couple. Both my in-laws and the other couple had called and e-mailed to confirm ahead of time, so the owner must have known that she double-booked! The owner wanted both of our parties and one other woman to re-arrange our accommodations, and stay together, so that we would all fit at the B&B. When we thought that would be strange (one room didn't even have a bed, just a very small futon!), she offered that we could stay at someone else's house--not even a B&B! She told us that there was a lakefront cottage available, then said, "that's not available" when we asked about it. She made no apology to any of us during the conversation, did not admit that it was her mistake to us, and did not offer any kind of compensation. We had to leave and find other accommodations, and ended up at a discount hotel because there was nowhere else to stay during Labor Day weekend. The B&B looks lovely online, and the rooms are nicely decorated, but the service and security leave a lot to be desired. Definitely would not recommend this, especially if you want a hassle-free stay! I understand mistakes being made, but a good business-person offers and apology at the least!
