The property was absolutely charming. We were warmly greeted by the inn keeper upon arrival and were graciously invited to sit down for a nice cup of loose jasmine tea and light desserts after our travel. The breakfast is fantastic. The best pancakes I have ever had & I'm an advid cook. The rooms were very clean and decortated with lovely antiques. There is an extensive library and board games should you wish to stay in for the evening and relax. I wish I could have stayed for the whole week. Truly an experience.

The washington Irving inn is wonderful. Rooms are nice and cozy. It is nicely decorated with victorian antiques( it was built in 1890).The inn has a very cozy feel to it. The food is to die for.The tea overall was my favorite part. It is nice to come back from skiing and have a nice hot cup of tea and a cinnamon bun.The staff was friendly and could not be bothered to do anything. This is a very special property.

We booked this inn as a last minute New Year's weekend trip for my husband and I in 2006. (I know, my posting is a bit delayed.) The inn was very charming and Stephanie (I believe that was her name) was exceptional at making us welcome and was quite charming herself. The location of the inn was conveniently located between Hunter Mountain and Windham Mountain. The served breakfast was delicious and made to order. A nice surprise!
Just be warned that this is not a party place!!! There was a guest that had friends drop them off after midnight and they were carrying on in the parking lot with music booming from their cars. It was not the experience that we thought went in hand with this old-fashioned business establishment and it was very unpleasant. We were happy to see that the guests decided to leave after Stephanie asked them to not continue that behavior.
I also want to request that families do not bring their children! I know the site says "only well-behaved children" but please leave them at home no matter how well behaved you think they are. The building is old and children simply do not know how to climb the stairs without making more noise than necessary.
Overall this is simply a perfect place for a romantic getaway or a quiet retreat and other than the bad experiences due to the above mentioned guests everyone else was simply divine!

“Best Inn Around!”

Washington Irving Inn

We selected this inn out of a B&B brochure without really knowing what we were getting, and we were pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the place. The location is just outside of downtown Tannersville and very close to restaurants, hiking, and other activities. The inn itself is beautiful - a huge wooden house with wraparound porch, bar, and cute, clean rooms. The breakfast, which is included in the room rate, includes homemade breads, choice of breakfast entree, and juice and coffee. Better than any included breakfast we've had. Delicious, high quality food.

The grounds include a small pool and expansive lawn, and for rainy days there are several sitting rooms inside for board games or reading. A lovely place to stay, and from what we saw, I think it's one of the nicest in the region. The innkeeper is also more than happy to make suggestions for dining and activities. Very kind and helpful.

For dinner, try Black Diamonds (just across the road, right out of the driveway). We had a bad experience with the service, but the food was AMAZING on all counts.

In the immediate area there didn't seem to be much in the the way of shops, but the hiking at North Lake was great. Lots of trails both up and down the mountain so you never have to repeat a path, and the lake looked very inviting.
