Red dot advertises itself as the oldest bar in Hudson. It also advertises itself as dog friendly.
Companion, Pooch and I arrived a few minutes after the doors opening for dinner. Like many older buildings we went through one area(the bar) and meandered through another dining area before we hit the outside patio.
Pooch was well behaved , but made to lick the hostess when we got outside. The hostess jumped away like tour female golden was going to take a bit out of her. We were seated at the back of the patio, by a wooden gate because the hostess suggested that the seats would be more comfortable for a large man like my companion.(she could have just said that the seats were more comfortable!)
After we settled in, the hostess warned us to hold tightly to Pooch since the restaurant's owners dog would be coming through the gate shortly and he was a bit jumpy.
Our waitress started out as a welcome relief from our hostess. Her Irish accent was pleasant(been in the states 16 years she said). She got Pooch a bowl of water with our drinks.
We received a friendly visit from the restaurants cat...and then a few sprinkles from the weather. The outside had no umbrellas with the tables so we were glad when the rain stopped before becoming more.
After a little contretemps with the owners dog we settled in.
The meu was small but eclectic enough to offer choices for everyone.
I ordered the sauteed chicken breast which came with mashed(they called them creamed) potatoes au jus and almondine green beans. It was delicious.
Companion ordered fried calamari with sauteed brussel sprouts. He was quite content.
Drinks were replenished as needed. The food was very good.
But after the first hour (and before we were finished)our waitress seemed to lose her joy de vivre and started scowling. (I think she resented leaving the air conditioned restautant as we were the only diners on the patio.)
When we left the restaurant the indoor bar area was full. The air was filled with the smell of good things cooking.
With so many good restaurants in Hudson, I don't know if we will be back. The food was very good...but the attitude of the staff left an unpleasant taste in my mouth.
