“Pick a different hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

Booked this one cuz the pics showed a nice pool. Other motels to choose from a bit cheaper in the area. Checkin went fine until the end when I asked the pool hours. I was told the pool is closed. I said that the water looks great, what's wrong with it? Answer was I dunno, maintenance just says it's closed but you can go the Hilton if you want. I said that I was tired from driving and will stay anyways but could she look into it and find out what the problem is. Well she wasn't willing to do that.

Went to our room and found it to be dated and run-down but clean otherwise. The fridge is in the bathroom which was good cuz I could close the door and lessen the noise level from the worn out POS.

Fire up the laptop only to find out the hi speed internet is more like low speed dial up.

Decide to go outside and look around and there's a guy floating in the pool. At the front desk, she still couldn't tell me was wrong with the pool but it's ok to use now. <rolleyes>

The next morning the internet wouldn't work at all and I wouldn't be surprised if they disable it to get people out faster. Seen this before in my travels.

Just got my choice hotel card today, in the brochure its says they have over 6000 hotels and hi speed in em all except - you guessed it - Rodeway Inn and a couple others.

This motel does not have hi speed wifi.

Eat out front in the tavern at your own peril, I paid for it with diarhea all night.

The rest of the trip went much better in Watkins Glen, just stay there.

All hotels in the area are expensive for what you get, we paid $108 for 2 full sized beds. That being said, almost everywhere else was even more, being close to the Finger Lakes it's just the nature of the beast. This one is within 20 minutes of the lake and attractions. Outdated pink tile in the bathroom yet spotlessly clean. A good shower head, plenty of pressure, a modern tub, and again, spotlessly clean. The bedding was clean, carpets looked good, our mirror on the closet was cracked and we did have the cleaning staff remove something that was splattered on our back wall, but no issue. The room was quite large for that type of a room as was the bathroom.

The automatic door locks were a pain in the butt, we had a heck of a time getting in and out of our room, it took a special touch to make it work right. Any forward pressure on the door caused it not to work. The TV was a new flat panel HD unit with non-HD service, only so much you can do with that picture.

The desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room and bathroom were better than average clean, even the pool was clean! The grounds were well kept, lots of trees out front that mostly hides you from the road. There is a resturaunt out front and a walking path, nothing fantastic but great for a beer or a snack. Frequented by locals, not crowded, friendly service, kind of a stuck in the 60's looking place as are many in the Watkins Glen area. We were even able to sit out by the pool at night and have a beverage on a nice evening. A gazebos and a few picnic tables are scattered around for your leisure.

Our son is moving to Elmira and we will be making future trips to the area, this may be our go-to place based on service, cleanliness, and price.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the back that keeps you even more removed from the road, yet the road is no probl...

Chose this place on the way east on NY 17 as a stopover. It was great, if off the interstate beaten path. It is an older "motor inn" where people used to (still) go for a few days of vacation - has a pool, laundry and lots of land around it so that it sits back from a state route that is traveled but not jam packed with traffic. And they allow pets - for an additional but not exorbitant fee. The room was a double non-smoking. Very spacious and has been kept up to date. Flat screen TV, mini fridge and microwave. Also a nice feature is an extra vanity sink outside the bathroom. This place IS on the route to Watkins Glen to the north and NY 17- Elmira area to the south. But there is only one restaurant near it : at the front of the property. I didn't eat there but it was quite busy. So, if you are intending to stay here, be prepared to drive a few miles - town of Horseheads is about 4 miles south - to get food. Breakfast is as others have commented: bare-bones but OK. Would stay here again for the quiet and well kept accommodations.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel and grounds are very clean, the staff friendly, rooms very comfortable with good beds. It is an older style motel where you drive up to your room and all rooms open to the outside. A continental breakfast was adequate and plentiful. Staff very helpful. There is a restaurant in front of the hotel on the main road (only open for dinner). We enjoyed a very good meal at very reasonable prices. We are traveling and only stayed one night, but if we're in the area again, we will choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: We had a king size bed in a non-smoking room.

This was a nice little hotel. The room was very spacious, the bathroom clean, the bed comfortable, the internet connection decent, and the TV channel selection good. The hotel clerk was very nice and courteous. I travel a lot for business and usually have to stay in a different hotel room every night when I’m on the road. This is one of the better hotels I’ve stayed at, and for the area the price is pretty good. I would stay here again if I were in the area.

Chose this hotel while passing through from the GPS listing. Called for a room and got $95/nt rate so we figured to stop and check it out. Upon arrival saw that is is now a Rodeway Inn and is an older brick motel on nicely maintained grounds. The receptionist was very friendly and we had a nice ground floor room making unpacking the bikes easier. The room was clean and looked well maintained. The continental breakfast was minimal but better than some places, If the weather is nice there is a nice outside seating area to eat at. I forget exactly as I am writing this about a month later after spending a 10 days in hotels.I would stay again.
