absolutely wonderful place. i wish i could own it!!!! be sure to take the walk to the bathrooms... you walk through the outdoor kitchen which is still in use today. Really splendid to see how things used to be.

what to expect or say about a restaurant when you see cockroaches crawling around the tables while you are eating?

“Absolutely great place, should be better known”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We ended up at this restaurant by accident but I think it's well worth making it a destination. We thought it was fantastic. It is actually in the cloister and rooms of an old monastery, with wonderful ambiance, an open patio in the center and side rooms with wood-beamed ceilings.

The food included a lot of interesting local historic dishes and was absolutely delicious. I started with the "caca de zorro" soup (they are going to change the name), a delightful mix of vegetables in a savory broth, while my husband had the tortillas soup which was also great. Our main courses, chicken in almond sauce and fish in a caper sauce were wonderful - served with steamed vegetables (not overdone) and rice. There is a brunch on weekend mornings until 1 pm that looks like a great deal at 140p.

A trip to the restrooms is very interesting. You pass the old well, have a view into the kitchens, where they cook on wood fires in the old stoves with their tiles and antique hardware, and traverse another cooking area with big pots of mole and sauces simmering. In several of the rooms there are cabinets full of the dolls that the nuns brought with them from their home countries or cities when they took their vows. Supposedly the cabinets cannot be opened but the dolls still change their positions in the night if you want to take a picture and compare! Finally, there is a sweet shop where you can buy dulces.

We love good food and historic ambiance and this delivered on both counts.

“Wonderful ambience, mediocre food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We kept hearing about this restaurant, and had to try it. It was a bit out of our way, but nothing is too far in the Centro Historico. We were intrigued by the attractiveness of the historic building, but alas, the food wasn't too good. I couldn't even tell you what we had, but we were underwhelmed.
