A hidden gem if that is what you are looking for. unfortunately we were only looking for an overnight stay, we got there around 5 in the afternoon and left at 4 the next morning. Ideal if you are looking for a more private experience. We ordered dinner and were really surprised by the food that was prepared on an old coal stove. The staff were very friendly. lovely scenery and the waterfall is excusite. You will have to spend at least two to three days to enjoy all of its beauty. We choose the camping hut but were very dissapointed in the beds. should have opted for camping. I will not advise 2x4 vehicles to travel on this road some places are really sandy and a lot of consentration is needed on the drive there. Prices are high and i will not recommend low budget travellers or travellers looking for a place to sleep enroute since the drive there is time consuming. All in all I will go back with a 4x4 and extra time if I evere have the opportunity

Went here with teenagers on our way back from Lake Tanganika In April 2012. Stayed for two nights and enjoyed the fabulous walks and waterfalls. Saw a baboon and some kind of antelope and beautiful scenery as the lodge is set on top of a hill. Our children had the family chalet which was spacious and had a toilet and shower en suite. Our chalet, a little walk across the hilltop, was set into the rock of the hill with spectacular views of the trees and valley. You can hear in the distance the rush of the small falls as you sit on the verandah, a private view of a stunning valley, all to yourselves. Early in the morning, just before the sun rose, I saw a bat hawk perched on the tree outside.

There is a sunset bar where you can help yourself to cold drinks with a refreshing honesty system which allows you to write your own account and take your own drinks.

If you are full board you have dinner in the main lodge area and often the owners, Larry and Mike, who are wonderful hosts, will share the long dining table with you, as will other guests at the lodge. Any honeymooners can easily request dinner on the top of the hill on their own should they wish I am sure, as nothing is too much trouble for the staff who prepared a packed breakfast for us on our departure. Tea is served beautifully in your chalet early morning in a lovely African basket and old-styled tea pot. Very simple, aesthetic and very good tea too! A great place to go on its own to enjoy swims in the river and falls and relaxing walks, or as a stop over en route to Kapishya or Shiwa Ngandu or the lake. Accomodation for back packers available as they have a camp site which is well equipped and will pick you up from the road side and bring you back to the lodge if you need a lift from the main North road. All in all a very worthwhile African holiday experience.

Some of the flyers about this place it is like going back in time, and sitting on giant granite inselbergs surrounded by nothing but forest, you can really imagine prehistoric Zambia here.

Mutinondo is fantastically remote, even for Zambian standards, but it does have hot water, good showers, a gas fridge that campers can use and a freezer that you can put things in for a small charge. There is also horse riding here, walks to cave paintings and hundreds of trials for exploring. The inselbergs are impressive, but easily walkable to the top in a few hours. The waterfalls are stunning as they are only a short walk away and a nice way of cooling off after trekking through the forest. All are safe and good fun (in the dry season) for even our youngest child (6).

The road to Mutinondo is good – fast tar all the way and then 25km on a smooth sandy track that should be passable in a 2x4 unless there is heavy rain.

The campsite is well equipped with tables, a big braai and wood for cooking and the climate is a bit coller than the rest of Zambia as it is high up on the plains.
