“Lovely lodge in a beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Probably the best accommodation I had in several safari in Africa.
We spent 3 nights in a beautiful and very comfortable chalet: the bed is king size, there is a big wardrobe with a safe, the shower has the pipe for water and it’s not falling from the top as everywhere else in Africa, really perfect.
All chalets are in front of the awesome Zambezi river and are surrounded by a lush garden.
The restaurant is on a terrace on the river and food is delicious: we ate pasta cooked in a scrumptious and real italian way and very tasty meat.
Riccardo is a perfect host: kind, nice, very skilled about wildlife and all the staff - managers, guides, waiters - is kind and helpful.
We had a walking safari, a sunset cruise, a day trip to the National Park (that is 50 km away from the lodge – about 1 hour by boat) and a canoeing safari: all the activities were great!

Absolutely beautiful and spotless thatched rondavel rooms with large and modern bathrooms (no problems with water pressure here!). Very friendly staff and great meals, with Meegan never failing to amuse us with her tales. Guides Wheeler and Brendan are very knowledgeable and will always easily get us out of trouble.

Chilled water always available in a thermos carafe. Staff will come in at dinner time to help you fix your mosquito nets and also give the room a round of bug spray. Laundry turnaround was amazingly quick (within an afternoon!).

Great sunset cruise with lots of elephants and hippos, and the colony of common bee eaters are also a fantastic sight. Walk on the island is fun for those who fancy some walking (3 hours), a bit of tracking, learning about plants and having some adventure (e.g. avoiding a herd of elephants quietly).

Only downside about Kanyemba is it's a bit far from Conservation Lower Zambezi (1.5 hour boat ride one way), and as we can only be out on the river during daylight, so it is near impossible to see animals when they are the most active (early morning and sunset).

Just back from a 17 day trip to Zambia - visiting Kanyema / Kariba (Siavonga) / Livingstone / Luangwa & Lusaka. We are very familiar with the country but were accompanied bt two "novices"(to Africa). After two nights in Lusaka started with three nights at Kanyemba. Not my first visit having attended a wedding there a couple of yeasrs ago. Good/ well appointed accomodation, excellent food, friendly / attentive & knowledgeable staff (nothing too much trouble) etc., etc., all made for a thoroughly enjoyable break. Do I have any hesitation in recommending Kanyemba - not at all. Wil I / we go back - defintely (hopefully nerxt year). Strongly recommend a stay here for anyone intent on visiting Zambia.

We were at Kanyemba at the end of July 2012. A little chilly during the nights (7 C) but we got hot water bags in our beds. Don't forget your wind breaker when making an earlier morning ride with the speed boat to the game park.
Absolutely unforgettable days! Friendly and professional staff, with impressing knowledge and experience. Food and service excellent.
We took a transport by car from Lusaka to Chirundu (2.5 h) and from there they picked us up with the speed boat. This is cheaper and faster than taking a flight to the air strip.
For those interested a visit tothe village can be recommended.

We spent 3 nights at the bush camp and really enjoyed it. I liked that they were flexible on tours. I went out fishing twice, an island walk, and we cruised to the National Park (it's about an hour away by boat) and did a game drive. The guides are very knowledgeable. The tiger fishing was off season, so I got only two bites. The island camp is very comfortable, and they have a good eating area. The food was good, not quite what I expected based on the advertising, but they took care our gluten allergies well. A few things:

1. It's professionally run and is a decent value. Andre was a great host, and the guides were good on the walks and the game drive. There is a lot of game in the National Park.
2. If you want to go tiger fishing, the best time is September-October, followed by March.
3. If you really want to explore the National Park I would spend the extra money and stay inside the park. Otherwise, it's a long cruise to get there and back.

Nice spot to spend 2 nights, but no more.Lodge comfortable but lack of motivation to organise activities due to rain was disappointing. Food was nothing special. Local staff are very knowledgable and helpful. Peaceful setting and relaxing.

Our experience of Kanyemba Lodge was great. The road getting there definitely needs an off road vehicle or 4x4 vehicle as its quite rough. You have to cross over a pontoon at one stage of the journey but its half the fun.

Kanyemba Lodge is very peaceful and set right on the shores of the Zambezi. There is a lovely pool that overlooks the river and lots of chairs under big shady trees to relax on after a hard day of fishing on the Zambezi. You are given your own boat to go fishing with and a guide to take you up and down the river to the best spots! While we were out fishing we saw lots of animals on the banks. We were luckily enough to get right up close to some elephants who were on the shore and didn’t seem to mind us being around.

The accommodation at is very comfortable, although I would have liked an aircon in the room but there are fans. There are mosquito nets over the beds and a very nice shower and bathroom. There is no TV in thKanyemba Lodgee rooms, but it’s really not needed as you have so much to explore while you are at Kanyemba. The food is delicious and what I really enjoyed was everyone eating dinner at one big table with big jars of wine, it’s very festive and social. Service at the lodge is excellent and all the staff are friendly and willing to go out of their way to assist.
