3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We spent two nights there. Accommodation is alright, its not spacious but it was clean. On our first night the food was very poor but there was a noticeable improvement for our second day. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We visited the world heritage site and was surprised that the bushmans paintings were not protected. We enjoyed the evening game drive and sundowner.

Twyfelfontein is near historical sites that make the mind boggle with the age that the San people have lived. Near the only World heritage site in Namibia, Twyfelfontein takes you back to the ancient past when motor vehicles did not exist but nature had an enduring way of allowing people to survive live and enjoy the solitude that was their privilege.
Do not miss the Burnt Mountain in the early morning the change of colors is dramatic, the San Engravings are incredibly interesting and the level of teaching for future generations of the San in incredible.
See the petrified trees of millions of years ago.
Sunsets are magnificent and the added attraction of possibly seeing the scarce Desert Elephants on a game drive is stunning when you are lucky enough to find these animals that live in this vast desert area.
The accommodation is basic, neat and clean.
The service from the staff was commendable and they tried to satisfy the requests to the best of their ability.
For the lodge to be so far from amenities the food produced was exceptional.
Evening song and dance from the staff was enjoyed by all staying over.

Do not do one day only spend two nights so that you can enjoy the history of the area and talk and wonder how these San lived their lives.

It is the second time I'm visiting Namibia. We stayed 1 night in this over estimated Lodge. Too expensive for the empty buffets !!! While my friend went to reception to pay, I went to toilet and when I came back 200 euro that I just put in my wallet were stolen out of my bag from one of the many ladies hanging around the rooms.

Dear Annemie
It is sad to read such a negative review on Twyfelfontein Country Lodge after it has received more than a handful of positive reviews for the month of July. We take both negative and positive criticism very seriously and continually strive to improve our product and service.
We have investigated your alleged accusations regarding empty buffet and theft. Restaurant time is from 18h30 till 21h00 for Dinner and 06h30 till 09h00 for Breakfast. We have found that there was no problem with the variety or with the amount to select from. No complaints had been received from other guest.
Theft is a very serious crime. It is sad that you did not report it at reception or to the Lodge Management. The Housekeeping team only arrives at 8 o’clock in the mornings since first of July 2013. We can assure you that not one single person had entered your room while it was still vacated by you and whiles you been in the bathroom/toilet.
We thank you for taking time to review Twyfelfontein Country Lodge.

The location is perfect. The main building and the lodges are settled against the rocks. From the bar and the restaurant you have a very nice view. We loved the colours. The rooms are rather small, but clean. Do not expect the Sheraton. Service and food were good and the staff was friendly. A perfect place to visit the rockpaintings, organpipes and the petrified forest.
Just make sure that you have enough petrol, the nearest filling station is at Khoraxis some 100 km from the lodge.

Room Tip: Rooms not to far from the main building, and not at the backside.

This Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip (along with the Vingerklipp Lodge).
The lodge is set in fantastic surroundings. The Chalets very clean and functional with superb view over the plains. The Pool, although small, was very welcome and not too cold ( was the only pool on the trip that one could actually stay in for more than 10 minutes !). The evening buffet was superb - The Kudu delicious. Brekfast was of the same quality and the service was very good. Unfortunately we wee only here for one night!

Big lodge and a bit impersonal compared to many Namibian lodges, which are usually quite a bit smaller. Rooms are clean, the common areas are nice, and they've thoughtfully surrounded the dining area with a screen because the Twyfelfontein area has lots of flies.

On the downside, the food was good but very expensive for a buffet. Also, in the morning, they bus the cleaning staff in from the local community and the ladies chit-chat while guests are checking out. This means that if you'd prefer to sleep in until 8 or so, you're probably not going to be able due to the chatter. They gather in front of rooms 25/6, so maybe elsewhere it's quieter.
