My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Babi eight days in Nov./Dec. '11, we've got nothing but good to say. The four rooms are all very tastefully and beautifully decorated, with attention to every single detail. All rooms face the white, sandy beach (only 20-30m away). The bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in (which says a lot as a back injury makes it very hard to find a good, comfy bed). Waking up in the morning, the first thing you see through the glassed wall is the ocean, shimmering in all shades of blue and dotted with pitoresque, local sail/fishingboats. In the horizon, the strikingly beautiful Benguerra and Bazaruto islands. Every afternoon, the locals hold a small fishmarked on the beach, only a stonethrow from Casa Babi.
Casa Babi is situated in a quiet and peaceful location, 15-20 mins. walking distance from Vilankulo village with it's colorful, local market (and the bus stop).
Sabrina & Denis (and their tail wagging dogs) are the greatest hosts. Very friendly, helpful and service minded, there's not a thing they wouldn't do for their guests (Sabrina even lent me her shoes when my flip-flops got lost! ;-) They really make you feel at home.
Sabrina and Denis also runs/owns Odyssea Dive, located at the same premises as Casa Babi. Don't miss their dive/snorkling trips! We went on their boattrip to Two Mile Reef (with stops at Benguerra and Bazaruto islands) twice and had four unforgettable dives. Highly recommendable!
The pool and the restaurant/bar was still under construction when we stayed there, hence we did unfortunatelly not have the opportunity to try their menu. We do, however, know that Sabrina makes the most delicious sandwiches for the dive trips and expect the Casa Babi cuisine to be nothing less than the same.
The only thing we missed during our stay, was wildlife (hence the one 4 points). Lack of such is not particular to Vilankulos though, Mozambique's wildlife still suffers badly from extended poaching during the civil war.
Vilankulos and Casa Babi is not for those looking for discos, hectic nightlife and shoppingmalls. But, if your dreams contain an exquisitely comfortable room with a wiev, welcoming hosts and friendly locals, lazy days in the tropic sun, safe swimming, spectacular diving, photography, ballgames with the local kids, gazing at the stars ... Casa Babi is the place for you! We'd go back any time! :-)
