“Rustic at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

I love this place. When you go to Mozambique, you go to relax, and just chill. This is the perfect place to do so. Nick, Grant and all the friendly hosts make your stay an unforgettable one.

We visit at least once a year, and you can always expect exactly the same service. If you are looking for the Ritz, this is not it. This is where you go with close friends to sip TnT's, fish and snorkel. The accommodation is as I said not 5 star, but why would you want that in Vilanculos?

The location can simple not be better.

Just returned from another lovely stay at Archipelago Resort. I had forgotten how airy and spacious the lodges are. They are really unique in that regard. The bar and restaurant were great value and we spent many a lazy hour by the pool ordering snacks and cocktails.

While we were there we witnessed a small party of people attending a "renewal of wedding vows" on the beach. A more unspoilt and pictureque venue would be hard to find. The staff had plaited palm leaves and built a very pretty pergoda for the occasion.

The beach is huge and unspoilt, but for me the best feature is the grassed area under the palm trees. Wonderful for having a few ice cold 2M beers with friends. The energetic ones of our party got up early for runs on the beach or swims to the nearest sandbars and back. The fishermen's dhows float silently by and add to the magic atmosphere. The guests in our neighbouring lodge even did some yoga salutes to the sun each morning. Can't wait for our next trip there.

We stayed at the Archipelago for our honeymoon and it was beautiful. The food in the restaurant was delicious and well priced, so were the cocktails!

The beach was beautiful and clean, the staff cleam up every morning.

You do need a 4x4! We learnt that the hard way!

I stayed at the Archipelago with a group of World Bank officials for three nights at the beginning of December and loved every minute of my stay. The hotel is located right on the beach and you can see it from your villas. The service at the hotel and restaurant is one of the best I have experienced in 2012. Food was amazing. Perfect for honey moons, family and groups of friends.

I wish I could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: We rented villa 4-5-6-7 and think 7 is one of the best

Magical view, wonderfully good food (especially the tuna), super friendly staff and all this is in a nearly untouched area outside Vilanculo where you have the opportunity to enjoy the paradise and also gain an insight into the local culture.

I loved every moment!!!

A great place to chill out and enjoy the view. The sea facing casas are the best, lovely design, comfortable and very cool. Check for out of season rates, really good value for money.
The restuarant is good value with wonderful sea food.

Room Tip: Take your own toaster for morning breakfast, a freezer is provided so your sliced bread will last...

Spent the last 2 weeks driving the coast of southern Mozambique and must say that Archipelago Resort turned out to be one of my favorite spots. The resort's bar, pool and sea front bungalows sit high atop the dunes overlooking the sea. The vantage point is unique to most of what Vilanculos has to offer for accommodation options.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant offered very good meals at reasonable prices. The managers on duty during my stay, Norman and Nick, went out of their way to help me in navigating downtown Vilanculos as well as getting my modem and new SIM card straightened out. Management of the resort is well above average.

The casas or bungalows are some of the largest I have seen offering 2 large bedrooms in addition to a lrage loft area suitable for at least another 2 people. The kitchens are big as are the indoor and outdoor seating areas.
