“Nice place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

The Ambaro Resort is the new name of Corail Noir.
The Resort is overwhelming Italian. All the menus and notifications are either
in Italian or French.
The director of the resort, one of the barmen and one of the waiters do speak English.
There is a choice of four starters, four main courses and three desserts.
The lunch menu is also the dinner menu.
Don't bother with breakfast. The lunch and dinner food is good.
There is a very nice buffet twice a week.
Two pools. One close to the ocean and a larger one at the back.
Snorkeling can be done off Nosy Sakatia (10 minutes away by boat).
Take a traditional boat (motorized) from next to Ambaro resort to Sakatia. They know where to go.
The first snorkeling spot is just round the corner from Sakatia lodge. See map.
The other option is to go to Nosy Tanikely which I heard is a natural marine reserve. This you can organize at Ambaro themselves. Euro 70 per person.
The bungalows stand separate individually. Mine had air-conditioning.
There was a rat/cat/bat that visited the roof some nights.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2009

We stayed here for 4 days after a hectic month of wildlife trekking in Madagascar. It was a lovely, peaceful rest. The only other guests were a few Italians. The hotel is quite small with a lovely shady open sided restaurant overlooking the sea. The pool and patio areas similarly are right by the sea shore. Food was delicious. Service was friendly, informal and excellent. We had a look at the Vanila and found that much bigger and plusher, the more extensive grounds meant that you were not right by the sea. The Vanila is the only other hotel on a nice long sweep of beach. Our room was the cheapest on offer, but absolutely fine, comfy bed, good lighting, desk, side tables and a modern bathroom. We would return. Boat trips on offer were a bit pricy. The only thing we initially didn't like was that it was NOT like the "real" madagascar! It had electricity and running water, a hair dryer and shampoo!! But we soon got used to that!
