“Great place to relax!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We stayed at the Asempa Lodge for 6 nights with a group of eight students and two teachers.
Just like like last year it was a great stay.

The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms were spacious and clean. At the lodge they served great breakfast and diner, probably one of the best in town!

The rates for the rooms and the food are very good! Because of some maintenance to the pool we couldn't swim, but we had running water the whole period, even though Tamale is suffering from a big water problem.

We would definetly recommened this place!

i don't need a lot of luxury and for sure, for that price you can't expect, that everything is fine/perfect. But, at least they could clean the toilet, bevor they give the room to the next visitors. I don't like stripes in the toilet.... Hairs in the washbasin, damaged toilet, NO mirror in the whole room (incl. bath), aircondition out of work and a pool... I don't know if there somebody goes swimming and i don't wan't to make believe, what gonna happened with human skin, if you jump into this "water".

So, at least the basics should work and a very bit of cleanness i can espect, even for small money.

I give 2 Stars, becaus of course, it was cheap...

We arrived late at the Asempa Lodge after a long bus ride from Accra. We felt hot and sweaty and you can imagine our disappointment when we found out that our hut was very hot (fan was working, but had little effect) and there was no water. So no shower and no chance to cool down.

The huts are spacious, but they feel quite dirty. There was dust and sand everywhere and the sheets were stained. Combine this with no running water and you can forget any bit of comfort. The water shortage was a general problem according to the management. And although I'm sure that it was exceptional and temporary, we did find hotels with running water in the center of town. I can't help the feeling that they just didn't make lots of effort to find water... Needless to say that the pool was out of order too.

The friendly staff compensated for all this though. They are really nice, always helpful and serve good food. We can also highly recommend the walk to the small village just behind the lodge. Great experience!

Asempa Lodge is out of town, so you're away from the hassle and noise. A taxi ride into town will cost about 6 cedi and can be arranged through the lodge. With running water and some more cleaning, this place has a lot of potential. But unfortunately none of those conditions were fulfilled upon our time of visit.

Pick up from bus station (even in the middle of the night) is possible for a small fee. Private hut, with own bathroom. The rooms were really spacious, and contained IKEA furniture. Clean bathroom with (cold) running water. No air conditioning, but fans.
From the roadside, the common buildings looked poorly maintained, this was due to heavy rains in the rainy season earlier this year. The rooms however were very neat and in a good state (looked quite new).
The compound of the hotel has a simple pool with sunbeds, and several animals like a donkey, duiker, etc.
The staff is very friendly. Rooms can be booked with or without breakfast and dinner. The food is simple but tasty. A self contained double/twin room with breakfast and dinner costs GHC50 per night. A self contained double/twin room without breakfast and dinner costs GHC35 per night

Room Tip: There are two kinds of rooms: simple rooms with shared bathrooms, and self-contained, spacious rooms
