Schade's has a couple of fatal flaws. Firstly, it doesn't train its wait staff. If it does, then there's something lacking in that training program. Having been in the restaurant multiple times, I don't remember any of the staff welcoming me or making me feel comfortable. Not rude, just clueless about what a customer likes. The ambiance...isn't. Even bad fast-food places are better than Schades.
Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but it isn't memorable either with very few exceptions. Another problem is that it isn't consistent...like they have a tough time keeping cooks. It's just bland, simple comfort food. Whatever you do, stay within the simple boundaries of home-cooked fare. No seafood, or international dishes. Stay with mashed potatoes, sandwiches, fries...you know, stuff like that. Their menu is gigantic and quite unnecessarily aggressive. If you must, try the burrito, which was pretty good. I also enjoyed the buffalo chicken wrap. A party pizza to go is a pretty good choice. I didn't like any italian dishes I've tried there-sauce was weird- but was told that the parmisan chicken was good. Anything that needs a lot of finesse should be saved for a better day. Be ready for inattentive service and an adventure if you stray from the basics.
