“Nice stay!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2007

The pros:

- The grounds were really lovely and nicely landscaped. If you're looking for a country escape this is a great one.
- The location was great- close to Hyde Park, New Paltz and other attractions and there was information on the area provided by the B&B which was helpful
- The bed was so comfortable! Also there were robes and bath salts and other little comforts which were nice.
- Breakfast was good but don't count on eating light!
- The dogs were adorable and really made it feel like home.
- RELAXING!!!!! It was quiet, out of the way and privacy was respected.

The cons:

-There is no ice or cold water in the guest areas- the tap water tastes fine but it's hard to get it cold. There was a fridge for guests so bring some bottled water or something.
-There were some stains on our rug and on some linens in our room. Nothing too offensive, just not what I want to see when I'm staying in a nice place.
-In the summertime the fireplaces aren't functioning. We were pretty disappointed by this since we were in the Tuscan Room and that was one of the reasons that we booked that room. It was cool enough at night that we could have used it comfortably. The tub was wonderful though!

Excellent. My husband and I are repeat visitors and are going back again for our fourth time in February 2007. The food is excellent, the amenities are perfect and the house rules aren't a problem at all. I go there to relax and don't want to hear a jacuzzi after 10pm or before 10am. Tim's dogs are so well behaved and adorable. There are dvd players in the rooms and there is a hige movie selection. Book a stay....you will not regret it.

I would avoid staying in the Mahogany room located on the first floor. You can hear everything that goes on in the room directly above you and unfortunately, the people staying above us were not exactly light on their feet. The floor squeeked when they walked around and you could hear the jacuzzi which is quite loud. Thank goodness the rules don't allow a jacuzzi before 10am or after 10pm.

A couple other small complaints. There was no bottled water in our room or in the dining room. There were cookies, tea, hot chocolate and cereal in the dining room all the time, but no milk. The shampoo and conditioner were in plastic refillable bottles and the air freshner can in the bathroom was empty (I thought a little cheesy). The TV reception in our room was very fuzzy, so my boyfriend checked the cable wires. It turned out they were loose so he tightened them.

The breakfast as an A+ and the two resident dogs are very cute.

All-in-all a very nice inn, but I guess I just expected a little more. Maybe if we stayed in one of the rooms upstairs it would have been a little different.

We recently returned from our vacation in Highland Manor B&B, and we still can’t get the smile off of our faces. We loved every minute of our stay, from the minute we drove up the driveway.
Surrounded by nature and distant from any main road, this beautiful house is surrounded by trees and has a big lovely garden in front of it.
The house has five rooms, one on the first floor and four on the second floor, and all of them are designed with good taste. We stayed in the country room, which includes a private bathroom, shower, hot tub, queen size bed, a fire place, two sinks, TV and DVD (there’s also a DVD and video library that you can choose movies from). But what made it extraordinary was the attention given to the small details such as the linens, bed-side tables, towel holders, lamps, etc. We loved our beautiful room which had quite the homey feel to it.

Tim, the friendly and pleasant innkeeper, prepared and served our breakfast every morning. We woke up to the delightful smells of a freshly baked breakfast served hot from the oven (or the pan). Tim has a great eye for the small but so important details. Our breakfast was not only delicious, but also very pleasing to the eye. We had a hard time digging in, as we didn’t want to “ruin” it.

Tim’s hospitality was wonderful and he does a great job in creating a cozy atmosphere around the house. He’s thought about everything you might need: information on sites and attractions in the area, restaurant recommendations and driving directions, huge selection of tea as well as coffee, cookies and cereal available 24 hours a day in the dining room, and many more small things that made our stay so comfortable.

One last note, we read the reviews for Highland Manor on this site before we decided to reserve a room there. We were a little bit concerned about the house rules after we read one of the reviews here. However, after spending our vacation there we can say that there is nothing wrong with them. They will only make sure that you could fully, and safely, enjoy your stay.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a good place for your weekend escape, this is the perfect place for you! We highly recommend Highland Manor B&B!

This was just what the doctor ordered. We truly enjoyed our stay. When we arrived we ran into a small gliche as a storm went through and our air wasn't working (generator was on). Luckily, we were headed to dinner (Italian - La Station - excellent service and food in New Paltz) and when we returned - the electric/air was back on. The suite (Garden) was wonderful and the jaccuzi was the perfect size for us - two average (not twiggy) sized adults. The bed was so comfortable (pillow top) that we slept like a dream when - we wanted to sleep. My favorite part was the breakfast on the porch - at our own small table watching the hummingbirds and of course the jacuzzi (which they provided scents and candles). Only two small complaints kept this from Excellent - too many house rules (seems uptight - jacuzzi should be allowed until 10:30 or 11pm) and shampoo and conditioner in plasticness. Very small and fixable complaints - only thing that kept if from the perfect foo foo escape. Worth the money - go!

I just came back from a 4th of july weekend there, this place was quite relaxing and in the middle of nowhere. I paid $400 for 2 nights, we got there on saturday afternoon and left on monday morning. This is about a 15-20 minute drive to CIA (culinary institute of america) and 15 minute ride to new paltz (an excellent town to walkaround and shop for antiques and craft items). The food was absolutely amazing for breakfast and snacks. In the dining room they had cookies, iced tea, cereal and other snacks there all the time. For breakfast on the first day, we had creme brulee style french toast with orange marmalade with turkey sausage and a sliced kiwi fruit filled with kiwi, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. For breakfast on the second day, we had a fritatta filled with onions, peppers, cheese, and mushrooms with canadian bacon and hash browns along with a poached peach. This food was great, i cant wait to go back. Tim and Elise have a great b and b.
