Anyone who has stayed at Residence Inns previously will be very familiar with the hole set up. There was little to distinguish this location (other than plan geographic location) from any other property.
The layout was pretty much the same, we had a 2 bedroom suite for 4-people. My spouse and I in one room and the boys decided to use both the other bedroom and the fold-out couch. This trip included just an overnight stay (arriving at around 11PM) and an early(ish) departure (around 9:30AM). Everything being where we expected was helpful. I was glad to find that the reception desk was staffed when we came in.
The only downside to our stay was the Fire Alarm and visit by a Fire Department Truck and Crew. This added about 45-minutes and happened just after we got into the room so no one had to go outside in their pajamas. (And, it was a nice summer evening out - no rain, not too cold or too hot.) We understood that someone overcooked their Popcorn and set off the detectors.
Breakfast was also pretty much the same as we've grown accustomed to, both in what was served and the quality. Breakfast is one of the reasons we choose suite hotels when traveling as we avoid having to get everyone organized, packed, and taking an additional car trip to a restaurant before getting on with our day. The breakfast buffet included juice dispenser, coffee & tea. There was cold cereal, Oatmeal packets & hot water, two Waffle Irons (having 2 cuts down on wait times when its busy) and a selection of bread, bagels, sticky buns and doughnuts. - I'm not a big fan of the latter but these seemed popular with a lot of people. In addition there was a selection of single serving Yogurts containers and 1/2-pint/250ml containers of Milk and some fruit - Bananas, Apples & Oranges. The hot items included Scrambled Eggs, Sausage pucks and something else I don't remember (potatoes?). On pleasant surprise was the availability of Frank's Red Hot Sauce as a condiment that I used for my scrambled eggs.
The staff kept up with keeping breakfast available and trash emptied even when it got very busy at one point with people using the lounge chairs as all the dining tables (and counter spots) were occupied. Well done.
There's a pool but we didn't use it, there's a small work out room with about 4-5 machines, elliptical and tread mill as well as free weight, didn't use this either.
Check out was efficient and we got out quickly and efficiently.
Two words about location, it's close to the I-90/I-390 and close to some key stores. As mentioned we came in late in the evening (from Buffalo) and it was nice that the Hotel is close to the NY State Thruway. This, too, was one of the reasons for selecting this Hotel. Also, there are restaurants and shops nearby including a Starbucks between the I-390 and the Hotel; the coffee at the Residence Inn is about as you'd expect - no better, no worse - but we like to have a large cup of fresh premium coffee in morning. Also along the same stretch there are Drug Stores and Grocery Stores that are convenient for families that forgot/run out of some item.
All told, we would consider staying here again next time through Rochester, NY.
