This is our second trip to the Canoe Place. We were part of a group although we ordered from the menu. Speaking of the menu, it is quite extensive compared to our last visit. Lots of new items, so we were anxious to try a couple of them. We ordered the pizza rolls and the mozzarella sticks for a shared appetizer. I am sure they were a commercial product, but good just the same. They were served with the ususal marinara sauce which was quite tasty. I ordered the Sausage Marinara for my main course. It was not what I expected. The description said it was sausage and bow tie pasta in marinara sauce. What I got was sausage and bow ties in a garlic butter diced tomato sauce. Nonetheless it was excellent! Sausage was spicey and the pasta was done just right, and since I am a garlic sauce fan the unexpected surprise worked out very well ... by accident. They need to change the description on the menu. My wife ordered the lasagna. Served piping hot on the usual dinnerware the portion was generous and excellent! Friends of ours ordered Seafood Alfredo and Chicken Pesto, and they also invoked favorable remarks about the quality and portion size. Main courses were served with a salad which my wife and I passed on. The salads looked ample and fresh.
Service was a little slow, but the single server was responsible for our group of about 14 people, so she did an admirable job. Service was lacking, but better than our last visit.
The restaurant was crowded, and there was also entertainment, so I think others seem to enjoy this place as well.
When we paid the bill, the hostess (?) came around with a smart phone with one of those attachments that will bill your credit card. You sign with your finger, but all they could give you is a hand written receipt, and it was on a small little square of note paper with out a logo, etc. They did offer to email one in a couple of days. This is not a great problem for me, but those needing receipts for business or accounting purposes should take notice.
So the final verdict is that we will go again, and we were happy with the experience. I hope they continue to improve and develop their staff and fine tune their service.
