We stayed at Ruby's overnight for our 40th anniversary celebration...lovely room, lovely day, lovely time. We have stayed at many B&Bs throughout the country from the East to West Coasts, and Donna is, by far, the best innkeeper we ever met. She loves people! And, she goes that extra mile to make your stay memorable. Even though we only live 45 mins west of Greenport, it's nice to know there's a perfect little getaway that transports you from your busy hectic life, to a calm retreat not far away from home. I will go back again and again....

Ruby's Cove can best be described as a warm and welcoming old home with a bohemian flair that entices you immediately as you enter it's doorway. Donna is the lively proprieter of Ruby's who will go to great lengths to ensure you have a great stay. This was our second trip to Ruby's, the first being 4 years ago, just weeks after she opened. Ruby's Cove is for those who are young at heart, adventurous and flexible in your idea of a vacation. If you are set in your ways, and rigid about what to expect in a vacation - than this is not the place for you. Ruby's charm is in it's imperfections - it has the look and feel of a home that has been lived in and loved in. Rather that entering a B & B, it feels like you are entering the home of an old friend and staying for the weekend.

While staying at Ruby's, my husband and I marveled at just what a great location we were in. Literally steps away from just about anything you would want or need. We shopped till we dropped, ate at all the great local restaurants, rode bikes along the harbour, and even took a spin on the carousel. In the late afternoons, we enjoyed cocktails in the big overstuffed chairs in the parlour or, on the warmer days, on the swing on the front porch.

The breakfast was delicious. However, if you are an early bird - you would have to adapt to a later breakfast time (10AM). Both my husband and I typically enjoy an earlier breakfast, but we decided to be flexible with this while at Ruby's. Because we wanted to have the full Ruby's experience, we chose to have an early coffee and either take a yoga class or a bike ride to keep us busy until breakfast was served at 10. Donna will accomodate requests for an earlier breakfast - around 9:30. However, keep in mind that she is serving all the guests at the same time, so she needs to coordinate with everyones wishes.

The rooms were absolutely charming however, our room had a small armoire so we couldn't completely unpack. That was ok with us since we need to take responsibility for overpacking a bit. Next time we'll bring less - you really don't need much in such a casual town. We stayed in the room with the turret. The other two rooms had bigger closets - but we chose our room for the charm of it knowing that closet space was limited.

Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back again. I am giving four stars instead of 5 because, even though we were able to make the late breakfast time work for our short stay - we would still prefer a much earlier breakfast. If you don't care about that - then consider this a 5 star rating!

I heard about Ruby's Cove first by word of mouth from a friend of a friend- I followed up by looking it up online, and after talking to Donna on the phone thought I would give it a shot. I was in Greenport for 2 days with my girlfriend for a wine tasting- birthday party road trip, and I really think this was one of the best hospitality experiences I've ever had. From the moment we walked in, Donna took care of us, but also gave us plenty of space. She had a chilled bottle of local Chardonnay as well as a growler of Belgian ale from Greenport Harbor Brewing Co waiting for us when we walked in (more on that later) as well as a big spread of much- appreciated snacks. In addition to running a well stocked ship, she knows the area really well, and can recommend good stuff to do whether its the closest vineyards, or places to hike or eat nearby. The room we had was spacious, tastefully decorated, not too much b and b frilly stuff, big comfortable bed and it's own bathroom. she showed us the other rooms in the house when we first got there and there wasn't one I wouldn't want to stay in. She has a whole slew of bikes you can take out, on the house- we went for a great ride on shelter island via the ferry, which is only a few blocks from the b and b. Donna is also an incredible cook, the breakfasts were really great, creative and fresh cooking that kept us fully sustained for the biking!

And l got to say...if you are coming to Greenport and are also into craft beer, her b and b is literally is next door to Greenport Harbor Brewing. I leaned my head out the window of the bedroom and I could see the fermenters. they make fantastic beers and the tasting flight is a must if you are staying here. Besides that its also just a scenic neighborhood, with a marina at the end of the block in direction and a small, swimming-friendly dock at the end of the block in the other direction. I really recommend this place- looking forward to the chance to stay here again.

We went on a couples trip to Ruby's Cove at the end of the summer. What an amazing little escape from our busy lives in Manhattan. If you're planning a trip to Greenport you must give Ruby's Cove a try. The owner Donna made us all feel at home the minute we walked in. She is extremely warm and welcoming but not at all smothering. She whipped us up a delicious breakfast each morning, gave us tips on neat beaches and good lunch spots and then let us loose!(she had a garage full of bikes for us to borrow and cruise around on-super convenient and a great way to see the town). In the evenings we would make our way back to Ruby's Cove for a glass of wine and a re-cap of the days events with Donna then head out to dinner. We all liked Donna so much that we even tried to coerce her to come out with us at night. Ruby's Cove is beautiful and cozy but it is the magical little caretaker Donna that makes it such a special place. We will all definitely be back! One last plus-there is a cute little brewery right next door!

My husband and I stayed at Ruby's Cove in August. We've stayed at many inns over the years, but this is the place we felt most at home. The inn itself is charming, and the beds are pristine and amazingly comfortable. Ruby is lovely and always ready to help. Want to go to the beach? She'll give you a beach pass, towels, and an umbrella. Hungry or thirsty? There are snacks and a variety of cold drinks in the downstairs fridge. Like to read? Browse through the bookshelves and try the comfy chairs with great lighting. I could go on, but would get sad we're not there. We'll be back!

The B & B is located in a quaint village with lots of fine shops and friendly art galleries. The village, in turn, sits amid numerous delightful wineries within half an hour's drive. The wines go very well with the fine food served by numerous local restaurants. Ruby's owner serves outstanding breakfasts and afternoon snacks, accompanied by local wines and delicious ale from a micro-brewery nearby, The house is beautifully furnished - Victorian-style; it is clean, cozy, warm and comfortable. Donna Gruber (the owner, cook and raconteur) is the gem in Ruby's crown. We had an enjoyable and pleasant experience that we recommend whole heartedly to others seeking a quiet vacation.

Everything said about Donna in previous reviews is true.
My wife and I go out to the North Fork quite a bit, and we'll definitely come back to Ruby's Cove on our next trip.
