My girlfriend and I spent a Thursday and Friday night at the Bartlett in Greenport recently (August 23rd and 24th) and enjoyed the experience immensely. Jack and Diane are the Inn owners/keepers and they cater to your every whim! First, the Inn is decorated so pleasantly. We stayed in what we called "The Safari Room". Jack and Diane have been all over the world and each room has a theme from some of their travels. The bed was so confortable, the climate was controlled perfectly, and the in suite bathroom was perfect! We also looked in many of the other rooms and each had it's own charm. One of our favorites was the "Double Suite". It had two queen rooms separated by a very large bathroom. It would be perfect for either a family or two couple headed to wine country in Long Island for the weekend. I believe Diane was a decorator for Ethan Allen so all the rooms, and common areas, are decorated beautifully.
The breakfast at many B&B's is sometimes continental....but not at the Bartlett. Diane makes this WONDERFUL quiche and it's different day to day. She even made my girlfriend a Gluten Free quiche special for her each morning and it was delicious! They also had Gluten Free breads and GF cereal available.....and of course all the fruits you could ask for. Thankyou Diane!!!!! By the way, the coffee was to die for!
Jack showed us around the Inn, gave us the history of the house, and filled us in on the area when we first got there. Right from the start we felt at home!. He even did copious research for us to get down to Beth Page for the golf tournament that weekend. He provided the train and bus schedules and departed upon us some local knowledge to make our travels more enjoyable. Thanks Jack, your tips were spot on!
Diane hooked us up with Vintage Tours on Friday. Jo-anne, who runs the company, is incredible! She picks you up in front of the Inn, takes you to 4 vineyards, you tour one winery, taste at many of them, get an awesome boxed lunch, and get a really good understanding of the wine industry on Long Island. She is friendly, smart (since she’s been doing this for like 15 years), and provides a great experience for the day (11:30-5:30pm). Look her up, you will not be disappointed. Why not let someone else do the driving...right?
Anyway, I hope everyone could experience the Bartlett. If you do go there, say hi to Jack and Diane from Denise and Mike!
