“What a great weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

The guy who had a bad experience with the accommodations at the carriage house obviously is a spiteful reviewer. Please do not make a decision on the Silo based on his or the other poor reviewers.

We lucked out finding this awesome gem by looking at google maps "What's nearby" when planning a last minute birthday/end of season motorcycle ride.

Looking at "tripster" and The Silo's web site, led me to Facebook which had a $50 off special for Saturday.

I was nervous all day because of the guest with terrible review. That was simply not our opinion. If your looking for flaws, you will find them, yes, as you would at any hotel. But if you are looking for a clean place that feels like home, at a very reasonable rate with lots of privacy (only three rooms) and beautiful views ... we cannot recommend The Silo enough. We found it cozy...like staying at someone's house, clean and welcoming.

Gar also explained he is planning some upgrades, including new carpet but we were very comfortable and happy with our stay.

The restaurant and bar made this little adventure perfect. Marcy at the bar, Big Gar and his staff are simply incredible. We were treated like old friends by good, down to earth people who are funny and accommodating. Our meals were fantastic and perfectly cooked. And they were even able to surprise the birthday girl with a cake and candles on such short notice.

We really felt welcomed and had a lovely, memorable night. Returning to our rooms we found the extra pillows requested by the birthday Girl during dinner, along with a bottle of champaign. What a wonderful surprise.

The Sunday Brunch was also exceptional and reasonably priced. If you left hungry it was your fault as the number of options to choose from were incredible. Omelet station; waffles; carving station with ham, turkey and roast beef; hot foods from breakfast staples to stuffed crab & beef tips; a salad bar and a huge selection of desserts. If you didn't find something to your liking you were trying not to.

The shear number of guests parading in both at dinner and brunch is telling that The Silo is top notch!

We cannot say enough good about our stay. We have already booked a return visit in March.

Oh! And not only were the restaurant and accommodations terrific, we were permitted to park the motorcycle in the barn overnight to keep them dry.

Thank you Big Gar and staff for such a wonderful weekend!

Ask to see Gar's beach pix and Christmas card! :)

Oh, and if you don't like it ... You can "Get the f out!"

“Great Food at a reasonable cost.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

My wife and I have eaten at the Silo Restaurant just recently and also on numerous occasions and have found it to be a most pleasant dining experience each time. On this recent visit, the staff made us feel very comfortable and the service was quite professional. The view of the Silo Valley from just about every table in the restaurant is magnificent and the food was excellent. The Salad Bar is to die for (one of the best I ever seen). The Host, Gary, came over to our table and gave conversation that made us feel he was most happy to see us. The tab we found to quite reasonable and when you add the view and ambiance, it was downright inexpensive. We plan to return often.

“Rooms are awful --”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

While we can't comment on the restaurant since we did not dine there, we did check in to one of three rooms in the carriage house. The carpet was dirty, the room smelled from smokers, the bathroom was poorly lit unless you turned on the heat lamp for additional lighting. Old mattresses were propped up in the hallway to keep doors opened. If they were any indication of what we were to sleep on I cringed at the thought. Security bolt was broken on door We decided to just stick it out for one nite and leave in the morning. When my husband called to tell them we were leaving the next morning and not staying as planned for the next day he was met with animosity and told if you don't like it here why stay tonight and check out now-- so we did at 11:00 pm

“We *finally* got to The Silo, and are glad we did...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I think we first noticed the billboards for The Silo when we arrived in Central NY in 1986... A mere 27 years later (!) we finally got around to visiting, and it was terrific. The restaurant is somewhat out of the way, but well worth the drive; it is located on a hill (about seven miles east of Greene on NYS 206, and a quarter-mile north on Moran road) with a wonderful view down toward the Chenango Valley. (Be sure to ask for a table by the windows...). The menu is really good solid new American, very well executed in an informal and relaxing atmosphere. Service is friendly, knowledgeable, and well-organized -- Andrew, our server, took great care of us throughout the evening. My wife enjoyed a fried seafood platter, while I went for veal scallopini -- both, really fine, and in the latter the taste of real Marsala wine. We started by sharing a generous serving of mussels -- the broth was just superb. A very well-stocked salad bar and a wine list that is varied, if not lengthy, and moderately priced, rounded out a super experience. We didn't venture into desserts this time, but next time...

Overall the experience is comfy, unpretentious, and built around the idea that guests should enjoy themselves. Don't expect edgy cuisine, tall food, or pecan-crusted-Thai-kale-with-escargot-carpaccio style entrees -- just delicious, skillfully-prepared dishes, a friendly welcome, and a sense of well-being when you leave. This part of NYS has several such gems tucked away in the valleys and up on the hills, and in this case we definitely intend to come back --

“Valentines Day Deal was Wonderful, Dawn and Adam T.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Me and my husband went here for Valentines Day and it was amazing. The owner came right up and greeted us. Amazing atmosphere, the food was delectable, and the cost was so affordable for what we ordered. We have been here several times and we always have a wonderful experience.
