We are locals who had heard good things about Lola, so we came with our (adult) children. The restaurant focuses on its wine list and foie gras specialties. The food was uniformly good, if very rich. Especially good was the Kobe burger, the duck, and the brussel sprout leaves which were, as advertised, the best ever. The pace and timing of the dishes were discussed with us in advance by the chef - impressive.
However...no one was minding the front. When we arrived, there were four employees at the bar chatting. No one offered to check our coats. We had asked to be seated at a table, not a booth: In an empty restaurant, we were led to a booth. A booth in the back of the room, closest to the noisy open kitchen. And the waitress! She was very pleasant, but clueless! She refilled our water glasses by picking them up with her fingers spread out entirely on the rim. We were completely grossed out. We ordered wine so we wouldn’t have to drink the water. When dishes were cleared, flatware was not replaced - we had to ask.
We hope that the owner will improve the service because it is shame to waste such wonderful food on such a poor dining experience.
