“Enjoyable for a (busy) day or two”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

We had two nights and one day here, which was a good amount of time.

Thatched cottages are set out in the garden behind what was the farmhouse (now the bar/restaurant). Ours was freshly painted with wonderful original paintings on the wall. The cottage had a small kitchen suitable for making sandwiches and tea/coffee, as well as a small lounge area, a separate bedroom and a verandah. The small bathroom has a shower only. The cottages are clean and fresh – not luxurious at all but comfortable enough. Improvements have been made recently, and small things like blankets without massive holes in them could certainly improve the place much more.

Our main problem with this place was the mass of red flies in the bathroom, and the gap between the ceiling and the walls. We had literally 30-40 flies in our bathroom at any one time, plus quite a few around the room. With a gap between the roof and the walls it is impossible to get rid of them. I’m not quite sure why the gap was there – it served no useful purpose except to allow insects to get in. A little bit of netting could easily and quickly solve this problem.

There is a wide range of activities available, both in the national park and on the farm, at very reasonable prices.

A pet zebra roams around the cottages, ostriches have their own little fenced-off area (this is where the zebra is sent to when she’s naughty), horses in the stable are available for riding, and wildebeest tend to shelter from the leopards near the farmhouse in the night/early morning.

There is plenty to do to keep you busy with different activities for a day or two.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Farmhouse, we are really grateful for your feedback, and make every effort to improve and rectify any problems our guests may have. We were sorry to hear about the mopani flies in your bathroom, and now that you have identified this problem, we are working on making sure all the bathrooms are sealed from unwanted visitors.
Thank you again for letting us know.

We stayed at The Farmhouse as part of an independent tour organized by Travel Wild Holidays based in Victoria Falls. Brent did an excellent job of finding first rate accommodations and experiences within our budget. Everything worked smoothly including being picked up in Bulawayo by Alex from The Farmhouse.
We had a lovely, private cottage with sitting room and small kitchen which we didn't need since all the meals were provided. The food was tasty and nicely presented. Staff was friendly. We especially recommend the horseback riding - the grooms were excellent!
The Farmhouse is in a good location for exploring the Matopos National Park.

Stayed at the Farm House for 3 nights with a group of students and found the food, service, accommodations, and activities at the farm to be excellent. Being so close to the National Park allowed our group easy access to bushmen cave art and horseback trips to view the wildlife. The owners and sons were available to help with any request. Definitely a place to return to on future trips.

Room Tip: The lodges were roomy and private with everything expected in a lodge in the rural areas.

We really liked the nature, quite, ostriches, zebras and the homely feel during dinner. We wish we had enough time and days to really enjoy the place an all the activities on the menu. Brilliant place!

Very nice place to stay to visit Matopos from. Staff and owners is very helpful and friendly. Cottages are very well equipped and tastefully decorated and VERY CLEAN. Set in a beautiful area of Zimbabwe. The food is also very good and the coffee which is grown in the east of Zimbabwe is "to die for".

Had a great day in the serene surroundings with plenty game on the property including a tame zebra . The property is located deep in the matopos national park and has a pretty garden, swimming pool, restaurant and bar and accommodation. It's surely a good place to visit.

Good to hear you enjoyed the horse-riding, we have had a few sightings of our baby giraffe on the rides and she is getting used to the horses coming close. Hope to welcome you back again someday!!
