“Camp Hwange is THE ONLY place to go in Hwange National Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

I stayed at Camp Hwange and The Hide, and if I could do my time over again, I would never leave Camp Hwange. Julian and Ash are perfect hosts...and by perfect I mean that they are there to ensure that You have a great time...not to put you through and time schedule that they have for everyone. If you want to climb a rock escarpment to see the best sunset - no problem, if you want to stay out all day because you are tracking a rhino - no problem. It is about ensuring that each guest has the trip that they most desire. However, they will always go out of their way to give you as much information as possible so that you can truly appreciate Zimbabwe, the animals and Africa. This is not "a place you stay" this is a place where you have the experience of your life...and a place that truly gets under your skin and stays in your heart..I am just looking for ways to go back again!

Although we are regular Hwange visitors this was the first time for us in one of the concession areas and I am now a complete convert to this way of experiencing the park. We spent a fantastic two days at Camp Hwange in early March. The location is top class, the service and attentiveness of the staff is outstanding and although not the best time of year for game viewing, we saw and learnt a huge amount. The birding was great and Julian and Washington's knowledge of their flora and fauna is truly impressive. The ability to walk in the area with these guys was a highlight for us. Our only mistake was not to stay longer - we shall rectify with a return visit.

This was our second time back to Hwange National Park, the third time for our traveling companions, the last time was with The Hide which was great and a good introduction to the park, but a stay with Camp Hwange was as mentioned in the Title for this review was nothing short of awesome. Our hosts Julian and Ash would have to be the best hosts we have had the privilege of being with in our reasonably extensive overseas traveling. They run an excellent venue and head a well organised team of safari experience providers. Our animal encounters were up close and personal with Julian's knowledge and passion of the African wildlife ecology ever so informative during our game drives and walks, (highly recommend a game walk with Julian and a local tracker)
The accommodation is very roomy, comfortable and well laid out with memorable views of the large Camp Hwange pan.

I hadn't been to Hwange National Park since the late nineties and I was a little uncertain it would be like after all these years. Camp Hwange turned out to be the best thing that has happened to the park for a long, long time. As a professional guide myself I was amazed by the quality of the guides and the attentive staff who seemed to know what we wanted before we knew ourselves. We opted to do a lot of walking and were treated to some truly amazing encounters with elephant, lion and buffalo and I was reminded once again why Zimbabwean pro guides are widely regarded as the best in the business!

This is by far the best safari camp we have ever been to in our frequent travels to Africa. We have stayed in 5 star camps in previous years however this camp in our view tops the lot and is thoroughly deserving of 5+ rating. The setting, location and exquisite tented facilities are second to none, the food is superb and atmosphere is outstanding. The guides are exceptional in all facits of guiding, their knowledge of the bush and wildlife is portrayed at every opportunity.Dave Carson has done a fantastic job of selecting only the best facilities and staff and this shows through in thier manor and sheer determination to provide the best possible experience for all that travel there. We saw plenty of wildlife and were lucky enough to see elephant up close during a walking safari and tracked lion on foot too. To top it off we spotted two leopards on our last day there. We cannot wait to get back there and are already making plans to return in 2014 ... Simmi and Cheryl Belcher from New Zealand
