“absolutely lovely hotel, stayed for one night of my holiday but would have prefered to have spent the whole week there!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2011

we stayed at this hotel as part of our tour of tunisia. The hotel staff were really friendly and were great with my little girl. There was even wifi internet - something that wasn´t available anywhere else we went in tunisia - so I could get in touch with the real world again!
the food at the hotel was so good we went up for second helpings - and then noticed that everyone else from our tour bus was also back at the buffet for another helping of food. we were all staying at different hotels around the sousse area and everyone agreed that the hotel served the best food that they had tasted during their time in tunisia.

there was no television in our room - but the room was massive and was a lovely tunisian set up. it didn´t look just like any other hotel room - i.e. you could tell that you weren´t just anywhere in the world - you were in tunisia! there was heating in the room and when we put it on - it really did heat up the room and we were lovely and cosy when we woke up in the morning. we had a great wee shower too - and there was a shower rather than a bath in the en suite bathroom.

the bar was reasonably priced compared to other places in tunisia and alcohol was freely available. the bar man even gave my wee girl a free cup of hot chocolate. she loved it!

there was a live african band playing on the night we were there and the atmosphere was amazing. my little girl enjoyed listening to the music whilst playing tag with the receptionist. meanwhile mummy caught up with the real world online.

i could have stayed at this hotel a lot longer than we were able to (it was part of a tour we were on). it was so much better than the hotel we had reserved as part of our package tour to tunisia. you really got a feel of the tunisian culture at the hotel!

the hotel also has a massive swimming pool too - unfortunately we didn´t get to use it as it was january and it was cold LOL

we would go back to this hotel again - if we were to go back to tunisia.

We arrived in this 3-star hotel in Douz in the evening after an exciting camel ride in the desert and left it at 3 am in order to catch the sunrise at a salty lake. The hotel lobby looked not bad in general, but we have been unpleasantly surprised by the quality of the room. It badly needed renovation, the furniture was old, the toilet not functioning properly, the door was not closing properly... Not even a 3-star-hotel for sure! I don't want even to comment the hotel restaurant where we had a buffet dinner and an early breakfast and the personnel didn't allow us to take for instance two desserts (the only good thing to eat!). The only good thing about the Touaeg hotel in Douz is its nice outside swimming pool and small garden around it as well as its relatively cheap prices. It is a hotel that is meant to be used for one night stays of tourist during their historic excursions in Tunisia so you cannot avoid it if you are on such excursions, just don't expect anything of good quality and you'll be fine!

Stayed at hotel last week during Ramadan. The hotel is quite basic the rooms just have a bed no tv ,radio or tea and coffee. The food was ok and the pool was good. We arrived at 18.00 after just doing the camel ride in the sahara the temperature was 42. We were hot a jumped stright in the pool. Evening meal was at 20.00 hrs and we had an early start 04.00 wake up for 05.00 away. Went to bar a 19.20 for a beer and the man in white shirt with moustach was the most unwelcomming man i have ever met. A pint of beer comes half beer and half froth, when you ask him to top it up he just looks at you. and glares. Then the price 6 dinar apint ,this was the most i had paid for a beer anywhere in Tunisia.

We stayed one night with a travel group. Although 4 stars claimed, it borders on 3. Food diversity and preparation are not up to scratch. Needs to an overhaul ....

This is a nice hotel to stay when you are doing a trip to the tunisian desert, as it is located in Douz, also called the "Door of the desert".
It is a simple hotel with a nice pool to relax after a tiring but enjoyable day.
Once in Douz make sure you do a camel trip in the desert.
This is definitely a good option for staying 1 night during a trip to the desert of Tunisia but not for a longer stay. For a long stay it is obviously better to stay at the beach.

We too stayed here as part of the Sahara Explorer, orgainsed by TTS through Thomas Cook. After a long day on a coach, we'd been on the go since 6 a.m., and some people had started ealier than that, all we wanted was a shower, a hot meal and a comfy bed. Well we got none of those. The bedrooms were cells with matresses on concrete plinths, no tvs, no kettle, nothing to make our stay remotely comfortable. The air con didn't work neither did the showers. The food was disgusting and inedible, the chef I saw looked like he's been butchering the meat himself in the kitchen. Most of the staff were surly and the pool was a soup of dead insects.
I wouldn't ever return. Given the cost of the excursion the standard of this hotel was so below standard that I really can't understand why TTS, and therefore Thomas Cook use it.

We stayed here during an overnight stop on an excursion booked to the nearby Sahara. The place was terrible, by far the worst hotel we've ever had the misfortune to stay in. The room was shabby, wires hanging out of the walls which were themselves disintegrating. No hot water, hairdryer, TV, radio or kettle - essentially the room ws four walls and a concrete platform with a mattress on. The food at the hotel was inedible - a previous group from our hotel had stayed there on the same excursion the previous week and the whole coach had got food poisening. The cocktails from the bar were undrinkable. Avoid this place at all costs.
