“Paradise on earth!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

The Seychelles are the real deal. If you are looking for paradise on earth. Search no further. Everything is a dream come true. But dreams are free and the Seychelles costs a lot of money. I agree it is well spent but to pay 1.000 euros for a night is too much. But you can stay much cheaper on the Seychelles. We've stayed for almost 2,5 weeks on La Digue en Praslin. This review is about a wonderful small hotel on La Digue, Patatran village. You pay around 150-200 euro a night and the hotel is not fancy and classy but the price tag is very good, the rooms are clean (we stayed in the main building in beautiful African room with frontal sea view, after upgrade), the sea views are out of this world, the beach next to the hotel is perfect with white sand , granite rocks an palmtrees and the swimming pool is nice. Breakfast was good, not great, lunch was better and dinner was cheap but very good. What makes this hotel special is the human factor. our best memories comes from a very kind lady Lindy Saindina. She made our vacation special and romantic! Ask her to make a romantic dinner on the beah or nearby the pool.

We stayed in November 2010 in the orchid room. The view from here was stunning, so beautiful, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The room itself was basic and a little dated but clean and we very much enjoyed our stay. The food was not the best and we ate in other restaurants the time we were there.

The restaurant self catering for 300 rupees per person with +20% service charge for nothing!! We stayed in Seychelles for two weeks and in any island restaurant we didn‘t find 20% service charge. Everywhere service change is around 10%. Patatran restaurant food un-delicious, cold and too salt - the worst in all La Digue island. In La Digue are few very good restaurants, with very good food quality and price offer.

My wife and I stayed in a honeymoon suite for one night although we are not honeymooners, having been married for 47 years! The price was €300 HB. Our first impression of the hotel was that the entrance and reception was very plush. After settling into our room which had a lovely sea view, we went down to the pool, which is quite big enough to get a decent swim. However there were only a few sunbeds and only 2 with sunshades and these were occupied by 2 small local children who were lolling on at least 3 of the sunbeds. I think the children belonged to one or more of the staff. The kids then proceeded to peel mangos in the pool and eat them in there which I thought was weird.
We had a nice lunch of octopus salad and that was the only good thing about the stay.
While we were getting ready to go down to the buffet that evening, we heard a very loud bang like a shotgun going off outside. This happened again and again and it was very loud. I phoned reception and they said they would look into it and we went down to the buffet. Our earlier experience was not repeated and we both found the food sub standard and very salty. We turned in early and went to bed, thinking the noise problem had been sorted, only to be woken up by a series of loud bangs about 10.15pm. When I phoned reception the girl told me that the problem was fruit bats eating and dropping the mangos from a tree over hanging the metal roof of the chalet and if we wanted to move, we could. As our chalet was at the top of a hill and we had been in bed I declined the offer of packing up at that time and tried to get to sleep, but was continually woken up through the night.
In the morning the buffet breakfast was very uninspiring and the coffee was instant.
We got a reduction on our bill after confronting the manager about the noise and wasting at least an hour of our time and having to listen to the girl on reception deny the times of both my calls. They also said that they were not aware of the problem because no-one had complained before, which was unbelievable. They tried to make us feel that we were complaining about nothing. Apparently the rent for the chalet is normally over €400 per night. Certainly not worth it. The paint was peeling off the outside and there were plants growing out of the gutter. The front door handle was hanging off as well and there were 2 plastic sunbeds with no covers. The whole hotel looked as if it was in need of money spending on it and the bridge over the pool had a lump of concrete missing from it. It would only be worth staying there if the price was very cheap, but it is a good location, being right on the sea.
My wife and I had come from Cerf Island Resort which was amazing and no comparison.

We stayed at Patatran Village as part of our silver wedding anniversary treat in December 2011. Although this might not be the most romantic or stylish place in the world it certainly has its charme. It has definitely the best location of all the hotels and guesthouses we saw on this island. The hotel is not new, but rooms, restaurant and lobby were clean and well kept, the staff was friendly and Lindy - the manageress - a real delight: very kind and helpful indeed.
The pool could be a bit bigger especially as the sea in this area is a challenge to swim in. The stretch of beach is lovely but the waves and current is strong and there are big granite rocks everywhere which - again - is very pretty.
Our room was in one of the cliff side Bungalows and the climb up the stairs is quite steep, but you are rewarded with the most fantastic view and at night you can hear the sound of the waves. The rooms are basic, but air conditioned with a big bath (shower for two to use at the same time!) and big balcony.
One thing we really liked was the possibility to rent bicycles and explore the small island on bike rides.

We spent 3 nights of our honeymoon on La Digue and took a chance with Patatran. The reviews are hit or miss, but we thought we'd try it. It was terrible! Actually, the room was probably the best part of the hotel, which doesn't say much. The entrance was in an alley behind the building. The bathroom had a terrible mildew smell. They decorate the rooms with flowers which bring all kinds of ants in. We could tell they tried to update the vanity in the bathroom, but did an awful job. Nothing else had been updated since 1970, even the towels - they were fraying everywhere. The room we stayed in had no privacy on the balcony from the room next to us, and it seems like that was the case with most rooms. The staff was indifferent and unhelpful most of the time. We tried to book a fishing trip through them and they didn't get back to us until we asked, when they told us it was too windy to go out. We found a local at the port who was great and took us snorkeling also. If you want to use the internet, bring your smart phone or computer and be prepared to pay an arm and a leg, because there is not one to use there (or go to an internet cafe). There are no safes in the room, only in the lobby so you have to drop your things off there. And they ask that you leave your key with them when you leave, although we never did this. The restaurant was even more of a disappointment. The food was average, at best. There were some things that were inedible, including the "fresh" fish and auberge salad. The $18 cocktails didn't taste like they had any alcohol in them. They didn't offer milk for after dinner coffee. We rented bicycles while we were there that were a joke. They were completely rusted, and the wheels and peddles were almost falling off. Most of the seats were tearing apart. The pool was tiny with only about 8 seats around it. The pool chair cushions were disgusting - I was afraid to sit on them without a towel. The outdoor shower doesn't work, and doesn't look like it's worked in years. The entire hotel was completely unkempt with mildew and chipping paint everywhere. It's a shame that the hotel is in such disarray because it has potential to be beautiful. The views are amazing, and the beach would be nice if it wasn't surrounded with a concrete wall. If you're going to La Digue, pay the extra money to stay at L'Orangeraie. We had dinner at the hotel just a short walk down the street (L'Ocean) and it was excellent. I wish I had photos to show just how terrible Patatran is.

As 3 couples we went to La Digue in October 2010 for my sister's wedding. We stayed in Patatran village for 10 days. Seychelles are an expensive destination, but as our local trip agent said “You have to pay the beauty you see!”. And it really is beautiful. Our hotel was incredible. My sister and (now) her husband stayed in honeymoon suite which was a lovely little house – very spacious and romantic. Four of us stayed in a little bigger complex, which had 4 nice rooms with double bed and a group living room. There was only a little problem in mine and my boyfriend's room. Water from the air conditioning was leaking on our bed, but after mentioned it to the receptionist, they immediately solved the problem (temporarily, for the time of our stay). Hotel has its own beach, and it's just a few steps away. Food was also great – lots of delicious fish. Breakfast was a buffet and for dinner we had a menu of two choice meals and once a week a buffet. But you have to be prepared that prices are high and if you want to drink anything in the hotel, they will charge excessive fees. The staff is very friendly and communicative. They also arranged a very lovely wedding and a dinner afterwards. The whole facility is just amazing and left us speechless, as did the nature.
