“Paradise in the middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Made more enchanting for those of us whom make the trip from the U.S. this island is a long way away. It is worth the hours on the plane. Greeted by the staff at the runway that begins and ends at the waters edge is the beginning of a welcoming and beautiful island resort. They cannot do this in the Caribbean. The accommodations and food are excellent, the staff is very friendly and is there to accommodate anything you need. Add to all this diving, fishing ( both blue water and flats), bicycling the island, and a beautiful Indian Ocean, what more can you ask for. The resort is small and intimate and the accommodations private. Patrick runs a great resort and Brian arranges the Castaways fishing and diving center. My wife loves scuba and was blown away by the trips she and Lisa, a dive instructor, shared. We both had uneventful, but adrenaline rushing, encounters with sharks, both fishing and diving. I highly recommend Desroches, you can be as relaxed or active as you want.

Room Tip: All the accommodations open to the Indian Ocean or you have the option of your own house.

I am so excited that we are going back to Desroches Island. We went last year and absolutely fell in love with the Island, the resort, the villa and the staff. Every aspect of our stay was absolutely perfect. The natural beauty of Desroches Island was extraordinary. What is most amazing is that the managers/designers of Desroches Island Resort recognized this fact and allowed the island to shine. The facility is elegant but with a rustic feel. The furnitures are made on the island and are so beautiful and natural and fitting for the environment. We loved congregating in the Lounge for drinks before dinner.

The meals were superb and beautifully presented. Each course was more delicious than the last. The head chef even shared his family recipe for the Creole fish curry. We were there five days and never tired of the cuisine. The staff were quick to please us, always recommended the best beach or the best spot to view the sunset on the island and yet inconspicious. We remember one night, we were dropped off to view the sunset with a bottle of champagne and then picked up promptly after the sun set for dinner. We were not stranded, considering we had no mobile phones on us to call if forgotten. I will also add that we had little use of the phone/internet..the signal wasn't very strong and we couldn't be more pleased. We'd call in once a day to make sure all was well at home. Otherwise we enjoyed our days in paradise.

Next month, my husband and I have five days to escape by ourselves and while there are many beautiful destinations close to Abu Dhabi we could visit, it's Desroches Isand we choose to return to. Last year, we had also visited Four Seasons in the main island of Mahe, Praslin Raffles and took an excursion to Le Digue. While they were all outstanding, none compared to the magic of Desroches Island Resort. Thus, this year we will go straight to Desroches Island Resort. We felt so rejuvenated and thoroughly spoiled that we want to make it a yearly tradition. We can't imagine being anywhere else. Looking forward to our visit again on October 25! Countdown has begun.

Room Tip: Luckily, we were upgraded to a villa (Villa 131) and it was an amazing experience to have our own po...

Excited children, even more excited parents! We spent just over a week in the closets that I have ever come to paradise. Just amazing. We keep looking at the 3000 pictures + that we took to make sure that it wasn't a dream. The staff were brilliant, nothing was to much trouble. Just an amazing time a way and one that will never be forgotten. Highlights - fishing, snorkelling, cycling, spa swimming, kayaking and releasing baby turtle into the wild!. Lows - none. If you get a chance just go to Desroches Island Resort. You wont regret it.

My husband and I stayed seven nights on this most beautiful island in July. We were met at Mahe by Patrick, the manager of the resort and from then on we were embraced by the Desroches "family". Every member of the staff worked hard to make sure that our experience of the island was special and one that would stay in our memories for ever.
We stayed in one of the luxurious villas - so spacious and comfortable, a beautiful infinity pool within the villa overlooking the private garden and beach. We had two kayaks which we made good use of and outside we're two bikes which we used to explore the island.
The restaurant offered variety and food was beautifully prepared and any whim was catered for.
Patrick is a very "hands on" manager and makes a point of talking to all of his guests and gets to know them well.
I would urge anyone planning to holiday on The Seychelles to consider this island - you will not be disappointed.

From the moment of stepping off the plane at Desroche I felt absolutely spoilt. The island has such a beautiful character (untouched and natural escape), the resort provided original luxury including top class meals and impeccable staff. The 5 days my partner and I spent at Deroche were a true taste of heaven. The island is full of activities to keep you busy and because it is so remote and exclusive it feels like you are on an adventure. Truly one of my best destinations and holidays, a definite repeat required!

Room Tip: All the suites are ocean view, but the beach villas are just ridiculously awesome!

We had 7 days of our honeymoon here and it was absolute heaven. I felt privileged and honoured to be on what must be the most beautiful island on earth. The staff are incredible - lovely smiling faces and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food is just amazing - totally different every night and the passion the chefs have shines through in the presentation and deliciousness of every dish! We stayed in a beach suite and it was beautiful. I honestly could not fault anything - I'm not sure I could holiday anywhere else now!!

Room Tip: You can't get a bad room here- Beach suites are amazing!

Desroches Island is idyllic and a wonderful Honeymoon destination. Expectations were high when we arrived in our 8 seater plane having just spent a few days at the amazing Four Seasons in Mahe but we were not disappointed. After arrival we were whisked off the plane and driven straight to our beach retreat villa with plunge pool and open air bathroom which looked lovely. We did however feel a little bit abandoned and it was a little odd not to go to a reception area or complete any formal check-in procedures. So as soon as we had dumped our bags and had a drink we set off on the two bicycles to explore. A 10 minute cycle got us to the main reception area where we were greeted by Patrick and his colleagues. It was here we were properly welcomed especially when we explained that we were on Honeymoon. Shortly after this conversation we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a 4 bedroom detached villa. The beach retreat was lovely but the villa was AMAZING. We were incredibly grateful to be upgraded and felt very spoilt. Later that evening, once we had decided which bedroom to actually sleep in, our bed was beautifully decorated and we were left a bottle of complimentary sparkling wine.
The beaches here are beautiful with crystal blue seas and soft sand and a real castaway paradise. There were only 26 other guests on the island when we arrived which at times made the whole place feel even more deserted but there were staff to attend to your every need. We arranged picnics on the beach and had romantic meals and cycled the entire length of the island a number of times. In fact this was one of the best bits about this part of our trip. We absolutely loved the cycles and the ability to explore and we enjoyed checking out the Giant Tortoise enclosure and nursery and just exploring the island in general. It felt like we were cycling through the jungle avoiding Giant Tortoises who were wandering around mad crabs running into our path and massive crickets and spiders. As for the beaches we mostly had entire stretches of beach to ourselves and rarely saw another person on the beach which was lovely, although at times we felt we could have been auditioning for a role in Castaway. One side of the island had calm clear blue seas, the other side it was rough with big waves and seaweed. This was a lot to do with the Southwest Monsoon we were told.
We had wonderful massages in the spa and towards the end of our stay we were also offered a complimentary massage. The free local alcohol was good which also included decent wine and branded soft drinks (but not orange juice!) and the in villa fridge was well stocked. The villa itself is very well equipped with every electrical appliance you could possibly want including an ice making machine. There is even a butler allocated, but with just the 2 of us we had no need for him (sorry Vernon). In room dining can also be arranged.
The food is excellent here and whilst the Chef was very accommodating making special lunches etc., we did find the evening menu choices rather limited, although all the food was excellent. The Curry night was the best night with more of a buffet style meal. The resort had also run out of Bananas but has a number of dishes on the breakfast menu that required them. We are sure that when the resort is busier (at Christmas there can be 175+ staying here) the menu would be more extensive.
The staff were all excellent, friendly and chatting to us all the time, especially Francisco who was very switched on regarding the conservation on the island and also Carley in the restaurant who was also lovely also the head guy an Indian guy called T…? Pres, David, Uno & Julio. You do need to use the buggy service to get around at night as the resort is quite spread out and it gets dark very early but this worked well and we never had to wait for a buggy. As you would expect from an island in the Indian Ocean, you do need to take some fairly strong Mosquito spray with you (we were very popular with the mosquitos!!)
This is a perfect get away from it all destination and to be honest even though we were on Honeymoon it was probably a little too quiet for us 3 nights was the perfect amount of time. One slight disappointment was the fee charged for in room WIFI, which was charged per device and not per room, although it was free in communal areas. The weather was perfect and we would absolutely recommend Desroches as an idyllic honeymoon destination.

Room Tip: The villas and beach retreats are away from the main resort so make use of the bikes, otherwise you...
