“Natural escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

From the moment of stepping off the plane at Desroche I felt absolutely spoilt. The island has such a beautiful character (untouched and natural escape), the resort provided original luxury including top class meals and impeccable staff. The 5 days my partner and I spent at Deroche were a true taste of heaven. The island is full of activities to keep you busy and because it is so remote and exclusive it feels like you are on an adventure. Truly one of my best destinations and holidays, a definite repeat required!

Room Tip: All the suites are ocean view, but the beach villas are just ridiculously awesome!

We had 7 days of our honeymoon here and it was absolute heaven. I felt privileged and honoured to be on what must be the most beautiful island on earth. The staff are incredible - lovely smiling faces and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food is just amazing - totally different every night and the passion the chefs have shines through in the presentation and deliciousness of every dish! We stayed in a beach suite and it was beautiful. I honestly could not fault anything - I'm not sure I could holiday anywhere else now!!

Room Tip: You can't get a bad room here- Beach suites are amazing!

Desroches Island is idyllic and a wonderful Honeymoon destination. Expectations were high when we arrived in our 8 seater plane having just spent a few days at the amazing Four Seasons in Mahe but we were not disappointed. After arrival we were whisked off the plane and driven straight to our beach retreat villa with plunge pool and open air bathroom which looked lovely. We did however feel a little bit abandoned and it was a little odd not to go to a reception area or complete any formal check-in procedures. So as soon as we had dumped our bags and had a drink we set off on the two bicycles to explore. A 10 minute cycle got us to the main reception area where we were greeted by Patrick and his colleagues. It was here we were properly welcomed especially when we explained that we were on Honeymoon. Shortly after this conversation we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a 4 bedroom detached villa. The beach retreat was lovely but the villa was AMAZING. We were incredibly grateful to be upgraded and felt very spoilt. Later that evening, once we had decided which bedroom to actually sleep in, our bed was beautifully decorated and we were left a bottle of complimentary sparkling wine.
The beaches here are beautiful with crystal blue seas and soft sand and a real castaway paradise. There were only 26 other guests on the island when we arrived which at times made the whole place feel even more deserted but there were staff to attend to your every need. We arranged picnics on the beach and had romantic meals and cycled the entire length of the island a number of times. In fact this was one of the best bits about this part of our trip. We absolutely loved the cycles and the ability to explore and we enjoyed checking out the Giant Tortoise enclosure and nursery and just exploring the island in general. It felt like we were cycling through the jungle avoiding Giant Tortoises who were wandering around mad crabs running into our path and massive crickets and spiders. As for the beaches we mostly had entire stretches of beach to ourselves and rarely saw another person on the beach which was lovely, although at times we felt we could have been auditioning for a role in Castaway. One side of the island had calm clear blue seas, the other side it was rough with big waves and seaweed. This was a lot to do with the Southwest Monsoon we were told.
We had wonderful massages in the spa and towards the end of our stay we were also offered a complimentary massage. The free local alcohol was good which also included decent wine and branded soft drinks (but not orange juice!) and the in villa fridge was well stocked. The villa itself is very well equipped with every electrical appliance you could possibly want including an ice making machine. There is even a butler allocated, but with just the 2 of us we had no need for him (sorry Vernon). In room dining can also be arranged.
The food is excellent here and whilst the Chef was very accommodating making special lunches etc., we did find the evening menu choices rather limited, although all the food was excellent. The Curry night was the best night with more of a buffet style meal. The resort had also run out of Bananas but has a number of dishes on the breakfast menu that required them. We are sure that when the resort is busier (at Christmas there can be 175+ staying here) the menu would be more extensive.
The staff were all excellent, friendly and chatting to us all the time, especially Francisco who was very switched on regarding the conservation on the island and also Carley in the restaurant who was also lovely also the head guy an Indian guy called T…? Pres, David, Uno & Julio. You do need to use the buggy service to get around at night as the resort is quite spread out and it gets dark very early but this worked well and we never had to wait for a buggy. As you would expect from an island in the Indian Ocean, you do need to take some fairly strong Mosquito spray with you (we were very popular with the mosquitos!!)
This is a perfect get away from it all destination and to be honest even though we were on Honeymoon it was probably a little too quiet for us 3 nights was the perfect amount of time. One slight disappointment was the fee charged for in room WIFI, which was charged per device and not per room, although it was free in communal areas. The weather was perfect and we would absolutely recommend Desroches as an idyllic honeymoon destination.

Room Tip: The villas and beach retreats are away from the main resort so make use of the bikes, otherwise you...

This was our first stay of three hotels in the Seychelles Desroches, Raffles Praslin and Ephelia Resort on Mahe. It did not dissappoint. I wanted a real Robinson Crusoe feel and it was exactly that. We stayed in a pool villa and we biked around the island most days, had lunch/dinner at the main restaurant and relaxed at our villa during the day. The villas very clean, the house keeping excellent and the service on the entire island oustanding, not to mention the incredible food. I would return in a heart beat. A massive thank you to all the lovely staff and also the Seyexclusive team for recommending this wonderful gem of an island.

Together with some friends we have just returned from an amazing week on Desroches. Whilst expensive getting there (fly to Mahe, spend that night in a B&B) and fly the next afternoon in a smallish plane (20 seater) to a very special island in the middle of the Indian Ocean (40 mins flight) it's really worth it.
The Villa's are very well appointed, meters from an untouched beach that stretches for km's and serviced by very willing and friendly staff. There is also a hotel on the island.
You spend the days cycling, walking, lying on the beach, swimming and for those interested chartering a cat or going on a fishing excursion with well trained, friendly staff.
The island is remote, small and unbelievably beautiful (recently visited by Prince Harry and his wife) and I understand has been voted in the top 10 of the world's remote destinations. Go and see for yourself - it's special!

Room Tip: Front left or right but you need to rent the entire Villa which has 4 bedrooms of which one, back ri...

We recently went to Desroches on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! The staff was helpful, food was delicious and setting was simply spectacular. I HIGHLY recommend the resort if you are going to the Seychelles. Everyone was very easy going - from Julio the bartender to the dive instructors and the wait staff. We had an amazing 4 days on the island and would definitely go back!

The one thing I would say is be aware that the times for the planes changed on us (in both directions) very last minute. One the way there, we received an email a week before so we ended up having 8 hours to kill in Mahe. Not an ideal way to start off the trip and we couldn't change our flight from Dubai at such a last minute. On the way back, they informed us the night before that our plane time was changed so we had to jump through hoops to adjust our helicopter flight from Mahe to our next island. The staff said this was done through their main office in South Africa and beyond their control. Personally, I think this is beyond unacceptable and dealing with these logistics is the LAST thing you want to be doing the week of your wedding and certainly while on your honeymoon. I felt they could have done more to accommodate us in this respect.

Room Tip: I would get a room vs a private villa because you are closer to the bar, restaurant, etc. vs when yo...

We spent 10 nights at Desroches island as the main part of our trip to the Seychelles and staying in one of the Beach retreats we had an amazing time. The privacy and laid back nature of the island is just what we wanted. The beaches are some of the best we've seen and the food was always excellent and the staff were anxious we enjoyed every aspect of our holiday especially our meals which we always excellent.

Especially for breakfast where my wife had requested a Croque Madame and they hadn't had the request before so the chef did some research and the staff tasted it before we came down to breakfast. We tasted and suggested a slight change and they changed it the next day and it was wonderful. They made it each day for us and other guests started requesting it. This example reflects the attitude of the staff and they are ultimately out to ensure that all guests enjoy their stay as much as possible.

Some of the staff were excellent to us, specifically these were Francicso, Caroline and particularly Carly.

Some of the other highlights to our stay was a magnificent fishing trip around the island and the skipper was great and made the trip really good even though we missed out on catching some big fish although we caught a few sharks!

Lastly, the tortoises on the island were amazing and the conservation on the island is fantastic. We spent a few of the days visiting the tortoise enclosures and exploring the beautiful island and if you are going to Desroches then that is what it's really about. I would highly recommend a holiday here. We would love to return one day and thanks for everyone in making our stay such a memorable one.
