“Great food but needs a little more attention. Go anyway!”
This is the third time we ate at this lovely restaurant. 2 out of the 3 times, the owner was not present and those were the times we had little issues that were not corrected. The great parts.... Artichoke antipasto was delicious, My mushroom risotto was specially made for me. It was great. The livornese style fish my friend loved. From all the times I ate here, the fresh pasta is always the best. Now, the not so good,..Each time we return, the restaurant gets darker and darker. We asked the waiter to make it a bit brighter but he just did for 5 mins. so we can read the menu. Definitely way to dark! Octopus was one of the specials and when I asked where it came from, the waiter did not have a clue ( being I just got back from Sorrento eating it fresh everyday, I was spoiled and needed to know). I ordered the calamari salad instead which came cold and undercooked but yet it was tender enough to eat. OK. My friend ordered the veal special and it was very bland and tasted strange.We told the waiter and all he said was "really?" My friend ended up leaving the two of the three slices in the plate. We felt terrible because we were treating HIM to a special dinner. My husband ordered steak and it came with broccoli rabe so he asked for a sub of string beans instead. The waiter said no problem. It came with mixed veggies of broccoli and carrots which he dont eat. Finally, the dessert.. I ordered the tartuffo made with cappucino and nocciola gelato. It had freezer crystals all over it and did not taste like these flavors. It tasted like it was sitting in the freezer for sometime and absorbed other flavors in there. Maybe Im spoiled because I just came back from Italy with the greatest gelatarias. The hostess came over and asked how is everything and saw that the entire tartufo was melting on my plate. I gave her a look of dissatisfaction but it went over her head and off to the next table she went. When the waiter clears the table and sees a whole plate practically not touched, dont you say something?? Anyway, at this point it was time for the check and dinner was over. It was a little pricey for what we ordered. Nothing was deducted off it nor were we offered an after dinner drink. The staff did not know how to handle these little issues. I will still go back to Tappo because just being human, these things can happen. I am still giving it a good enough rating though. When the owner is monitoring his place, things were always just right. (My friends frequent this place and never a problem). The next time I visit, I will call to make sure Francesco is there first.
