I just stayed at the hotel for three nights. I booked a king room with water views but when I arrived the only room was on the first floor with a window looking out onto a sidewalk and then the water, so I chose the second option, a 2nd fl room with 2 double beds. The room overall was ok but the beds (I tried them both) were horribly uncomfortable, like an overfilled aeromattress. The a/c exhausted directly onto the bed closest to the water view which so the next night I moved to the other bed. The bathroom could use new grout work--there are well intentioned signs that the hotel wants to be green and save water but the tub to shower feature does not work so half of the water goes down the drain. The ice bucket and cups are positioned within 2 feet of the toilet with ejector flush. The front desk clerk, Lynn, called my room after I checked in to see how I was settling in, as she knew I was traveling alone, which I appreciated. She also took care of some important faxes for me, but the hotel does not handle Fedex or overnight mail, so I had to go to a post office a few blocks away. I received some dinner and breakfast coupons which were welcome especially since the weather was around zero degrees the first night. The goat cheese-chicken and risotto was probably the best dinner entree although the quality of the filet mignon the next night was very good although the sauce seemed to be canned and the mashed potatoes served ice cold. The servers in the restaurant are very friendly although one of them spoke in shorthand and was hard to understand. The breakfast served via room service was not very edible--there was oregano sprinkled all over the hash browns. In the restaurant, the toast had been buttered with a knife that must have been used for onions, leaving an unpleasant taste. The pool has odd hours--10am to 10pm and was out of order the first day. Both printers and one computer in the business center were out of order so I could not print out a boarding pass. The final invoice for the stay could really use some clarification--meals (food only), drinks and tips are spread out so it's hard to discern what goes with what. At the restaurant, there were times I did not get a receipt but it appears some gratuities were automatically added on. I could not figure it out and it was not significant but annoying. There are vending machines with a good assortment for everyone, which is good for a college town. The setting on the lake is incredibly beautiful--the hotel is literally 100 ft (if that) from the shoreline. In the morning the birds were on the ice and watching the sunrise was like poetry.
