“Excellent servers, unappealing menu”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

I, too, had the hockey puck soup. Usually French onion soup is quite hot, but mine was barely warm and served in a typical soup cup rather than in a crock. It was a huge disappointment. I had a difficult time selecting an entree. Many had accompaniments that did not interest me. It's said we first taste with our eyes. Imagine salmon on a bed of lentils. The lentils could easily be replaced by something more attractive and palatable. Desert was quite enjoyable. We found the old menu much more interesting.

“Skip this place.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Where to start? Service? Food? Ah yes, the atmosphere is a heavy wooden Victorian dining room, with stained glass windows is lovely.
Our group ordered three of the specialty diners. The steak was dry. The stuffed chicken breast was dry and with a large bone? The best choice was the salmon, even if it had to be remade after the waitress admits to messing up instructions.
My choices were average or below. The Prawns ( large shrimp with cocktail sauce and lime). The Thai Lobster and Shrimp Spring Roll was lobster and shrimp period served cold wrapped in a thin membrane with a good Thai sauce and something else? The worst was the Onion Soup. Good broth was over powered by too many sweet onions, but what was that thing floating in the soup? Instead of toasted bread under the cheese there was a large circular hard thing. After sitting in the soup I still could not pierce it with a fork or knife. It looked like the bottom of a bagel or the local hockey team was missing it's puck.
For this dining experience we waited 35 minutes to place the order and then 30 more to be served our soup. This was at diner time (7:30) and we waited 30 more minutes for our first course. The restaurant had no more than 4 tables occupied at any time during this two hour torture.

“The meal and ambiance were great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Loved this location. The castle is beautiful and a must do at least once. The staff were excellent, attentive and informative. The food was excellent - I personally had a tortellini dish that was amazing. It was a little awkward that we were in a smaller part of the dining room with another couple at a different table. Just felt a little strange since we could hear each others conversations - would have preferred either a little more background music or space to ensure some private conversation. Definitely loved everything. The bill was very reasonable and again food, service and ambiance was great. Will definitely go back again. Thank you

“We keep coming back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

Our first visit here was before the new hotel was added. That time was a group of newly graduated chiropractors and their families for brunch. We were duly impressed and have returned as often as we can. The Sunday brunch is awesome. It is over a five hour trip for us to get here so it is a special occasion, and we have not been disappointed. As a group we sat in the solarium, beautiful on it's own. As a couple we generally sit in the closed in porch area or sometimes outside. The view of the lake is impressive no matter what the weather. The tables are cloth covered, real napkins, a small vase of flowers on each table and tea or coffee poured for you. Just these small touches make you relax and feel very pampered, but this is not what you come for, it's the food. There is an entire room of breads, fruits, cheese, and desserts! Then a buffet that runs the length of the hallway that provides wonderful sausages, crisp bacon, waffles, home fries or made to order omelets, all with a chef's touch. It is enjoyable just watching the preparation of the omelets. Then at noon there is a mimosa to finish off a delightful meal. It's a joy - every time!
