This is a great find if you want to stay in a luxury hotel without the high NY prices.
Located approx 40/45 mins outside NY city by train - it is a gem. Set back from the road for privacy and limited noise (the road it not a very busy one) it also has a fantastic restaurant. We eat here every day for 5 days, and we were not disappointed. My husband has stated here over a number of years while on business, but it was my first time. We travelled to NY City twice and it is so simple. The station is really quaint and quite - there is an automatic ticket boot / buy your ticket/ $14 return for an adult and off you go. There is change at Jamaica, and then it is directly to Penn Station NY City - great location in NY. It is simple! You can also go the other direction to JFK. Back to the hotel - we did change room after the first night due to a connecting door, but this was not a problem and the staff were most helpful. Our room was looking out onto the front, with the view to the station and church steeple. I thought it was a really nice room and a very good size. Housekeeping was excellent and very attentive. The only complaint was that the air con was constantly on in the restaurant and it felt breezy as it is also located inside the main entrance, but when we asked to have it turned up for heat - they obliged - no problem. The food was fantastic as I mentioned - great breakfast options/ lunch and dinner - in fact there is food available all day here - which is very handy, especially, if you are coming in on off times due to shopping or business. The village nearby is a lovely one with good choices of coffee shops and Italian options also. Nice quaint shops / but not enough if you really want to shop! We stayed in Mid December, so, there was extra atmosphere - due to lovely decorations, and locals dining out. There is a good gym, pool and fitness and an excellent hairdresser - very very attentive - I got my hair done for an event that we were attending and I was delighted with it - she was excellent!!

I visited this hotel over the holidays while visiting family on LI and the GCH was nothing short of wonderful. It was beautifully decorated, and the staff couldn't have been more family friendly.
The central location made access to the trains into NYC and out to the island convenient, even with kids.
Although some may say the rooms are a bit dated, it is more important to me that they keep them clean,spacious, and comfortable. It met all those criteria.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here ourselves in the future.

This hotel is beautiful. All staff members were friendly yet professional. The room was spotless and the housekeeping service was top notch. I needed directions to a restaurant and the staff at the front desk were so accommodating, in helping me.

I stayed at this hotel for a cousin's wedding and was a bit resentful about the cost ($200/night) being that I HAD to stay over, given the timing of the event. However, I was very impressed when we pulled up. It was beautiful, had a friendly valet, and check-in was very easy. The lobby is elegant and I felt a little better about how much I was paying. THEN, we were taken to our room and I was very disappointed. Yes, the rooms are spacious, but very out-dated. I felt like I was in my grandmother's apartment and expected to see plastic on the furniture. The bathroom was clean enough, but also needed a significant renovation. The carpet looked old and stained.

The location of the hotel was fantastic and I wish I had more time to walk around the area.

The only downfall about this hotel would be the rooms, which is significant. I would recommend this hotel IF they renovate the rooms. I cannot justify spending $200/night to sleep in a room that feels dated and dingy.
