“Nice hotel, great location, but dated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I stayed at this hotel for a cousin's wedding and was a bit resentful about the cost ($200/night) being that I HAD to stay over, given the timing of the event. However, I was very impressed when we pulled up. It was beautiful, had a friendly valet, and check-in was very easy. The lobby is elegant and I felt a little better about how much I was paying. THEN, we were taken to our room and I was very disappointed. Yes, the rooms are spacious, but very out-dated. I felt like I was in my grandmother's apartment and expected to see plastic on the furniture. The bathroom was clean enough, but also needed a significant renovation. The carpet looked old and stained.

The location of the hotel was fantastic and I wish I had more time to walk around the area.

The only downfall about this hotel would be the rooms, which is significant. I would recommend this hotel IF they renovate the rooms. I cannot justify spending $200/night to sleep in a room that feels dated and dingy.

“Hotel is in need of an overall Renovation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We booked with this hotel for the New Years Eve party they were hosting, the package included an overnight stay. I was excited because I was under the impression that the hotel was nice, but was a huge dissappointment. . We checked in and were taken to our room by the bellstaff (Bellstaff is very nice and work hard) Room 409. Upon immediately entering the room, we heard barking. The booking agent failed to tell us when booking that the hotel was "Pet friendly". So, I called down to the front desk and advised them that there was a barking dog adjacent to our room and that it's a problem. They said they would send security up. Security came up, did nothing. We had to be downstairs for the 8:30 cocktail reception, during the time from checking in at 7pm- 8:30 we called three times. The room was so outdated, I was shocked. Everything was old, the room was musty, the curtains were dusty. The shower had black mold in it, grout in the bathroom was cracked. The tiles on the floor were cracked and chips missing. The bed hangings were all dusty. We left for the reception, around 10pm one of my friends went upstairs to change her shoes and she was staying in the room on the other side of us. She came down and advised the dog was frantically barking. My boyfriend went straight up to the front desk to speak with staff. The staff agreed that it was ridiculous that the dog was barking and there was nothing they can do. The manager then advised they would look to change our room and all of our stuff would be moved by the time the party was done. Party is over, we go up to our Room 409 to see if our room change had been done and it wasn't. The air conditioner wasn't working, my boyfriend called the front desk to speak to them about the air conditioning and why our room wasn't changed. The simply stated there was nothing they could do, the dog wasn't supposed to be left unoccupied in the room and was. They had no rooms to move us too. Neither one of us slept a wink due to the barking dog and the musty old smokey smell bothered me terribly due to my allergies, hence why I am now sick. We spoke to another manager the morning we were leaving and he didn't care at all. Be aware of staying at this hotel. We paid approximately $740.00 and were extremely unsatisfied. They should be charging motel prices of $100.00 a night.

“Old and dated hotel way overpriced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012 via mobile

The hotel was so far from our expectations, I don't know where to begin. We were checked in by Daniel and taken to our room 437. The room was so dilapidated my wife was shocked. The wallpaper had several patches done all over the room. The wallpaper n the bathroom was hanging off the walls. The paint literally was peeling off the shower ceiling and there was mold all over the tiles. The tiles on the floor were cracked and chips missing. The bed hangings were all dusty. When we went down to talk to Daniel, he told us to speak to a manager in the morning, which we did, a woman. She said she'd refund us 15% on the first nights stay and give us two breakfasts as well as, change our room to a more modern room that had been updated and asked us when we would be returning as we were going out then. We told her 3:00 PM. When we returned the new manager knew nothing and our room had not been changed and our luggage had not been touched. Then we found out that the hotel had two noisy dogs in the room next to us which didn't stop barking. All and all for what we paid, it was a nightmare that cost us $400!

“FEMA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

I couldn't express how great this hotel was to help my family that lived in Long Island after Sandy. I came over here to help them get settled and get them back on their feet. During this time I stayed at the Garden City Hotel and it was a great experience. I travel quite often for work and never have had service the way this hotel provided it. Everyone was very welcoming and took care of all our needs. The rooms are very elegant and spacious. The food at Rein was amazing and heard the new Chef had a great background which was seen in the food. My family was treated amazingly and the staff was very helpful with the FEMA process. WIll definitely come back here when I come visit and I hear that the hotel is going to get only better with the new ownership.

“Girls Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

In town recently for a girls weekend with some old high school friends. I knew of the great reputation of this hotel but never experienced it myself until now. Well, everything I heard was true. The rooms were so spacious (more than enough room for 2 adults to share the space and not trip over each other); great seating area so we didn't have to sit on the beds just to talk...so comfortable. And, the service was outstanding; from the moment you arrive at the front door, at check-in, the restaurant and even Housekeeping staff. Everyone really seemed happy to greet you. Truly a sign of a classic, luxury hotel.
