“A Charming Inn with Lots to do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2007

My wife and 11 year old daughter recently returned from a three night stay at this wonderful resort. If you like winter activities, this is the place for you. we had never cross country skied or snowshoed before, but we did both, as they have all the equiptment right on site...We also went on a beautiful hike around the snow coverd lake, as we needed to work off breakfast that included blueberry pancakes and delicious coffee cake..During the day we also took a short ride for snow tubing at Holiday Mountain which was fun,,and then returned to the inn later to watch "American Idol" in front of the self starting fireplace..
Overall, we will definitly return in the summer to check out the outdoor pool and the fishing in the lake!

My boyfriend and I just returned home today and had an excellent time at Lake Joseph. 4 days went by so fast! We stayed in the Eagle's Nest with our 4 dogs ; )

The room was very nice and they had plenty of supplies stocked for our stay. The staff at the Inn were very friendly (especially our waitress) and it was a nice homey environment. The grounds are beautiful and we hit the leaves turning just at the right time!

Being able to spend a long weekend with eachother and our 4 dogs was absolutely wonderful, and the dogs had a great time in the trails and at the lake!! We were able to leave them in the room with no worries and enjoy exploring the area (there are some nice wineries not too far away) and take a nice boat ride at sunset, which was beautiful. I would recommend the Inn at Lake Joseph to anyone who wants to get away for some R&R with their pet(s).

We never lacked for activities during our stay at this gracious inn. The manor house is more than 100 years old and its colorful history includes stints as a summer retreat for Cardinal Spellman of New York. We were traveling with our 14 year old son who greatly enjoyed using the row boat, paddle boat, (regretted not getting to the kayak!), playing pool, ping pong, swimming, and exploring the grounds. It's like being a guest in someone's comfortable and well lived-in country retreat.

The owner-innkeepers, Ivan and Ru, are warm and solicitous without being overbearing. During our stay, there was a full house for Monday morning breakfast as quite a few guests attended the Sunday night Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young concert at the new Bethel Woods Arts Center. (This venue just opened in July 2006.) Breakfasts are large with your choice of eggs, or the hot main dish of the day (French toast, pancakes, etc.) There are also assorted breads, yogurts, cereals, and fruit. Plenty to fortify you for driving around the Catskills. Or for just staying on site. The inn is open year round and has a following for its cross country trails in the winter.

We just returned from a 3 night stay. What a wonderful, relaxing place. The Inn and other buildings are charming, the owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent - omelettes, pancakes or french toast (with all the trimmings), assorted breads, teas, cereals, yogurt, etc. The serve-yourself lunch was just right - several kinds of salads, cold cuts, breads, etc - something for everyone. We stayed in the Cottage in the Laurel room. It is exactly as it looks in the picture on their website. The room is large, there is a very small kitchen with all the utensils; it is a charming room. The lake is a very short walk (or drive if you must) away. It is beautiful and very peaceful. My husband wanted to fish, and the lake has tons of fish (all catch and release). He was happy to just take out a rowboat and fish for hours - a fine respite from a hectic life. It is just the perfect escape. Of course there are bugs - it's the woods. We used bug repellant and had no problems. There are also several excellent restaurants in the area, so dinner was not a problem. I am particularly picky when I travel and this Inn was just perfect. We highly recommend it and hope to return soon.

The great thing about Lake Joseph is that you feel like you are at your
family country house. Ivan and Ru are very helpful and everything is
there for you. You feel as you are in your own home, not a hotel. The
only thing that didn't meet my expectations is the time I spent there. I
wanted to stay for another full week.

We were very pleased with the accommodations and
the location of our room. Breakfast on the veranda was a wonderful way to start the day. In addition, having the ability to get a piece of delicious cake with afternnon tea was a treat. The weather cooperated. There was a beautiful snow fall which made the hiking trails even more wonderful then they already were. The pillows on the bed were great. We are coming back next year!

We love the Inn-which is why we've returned every year for the past 5
years. We love the room, the breakfasts, the fact that they are so
dog-friendly-we get the whole country experience-hiking, fishing,
kayaking yet we return to a comfortable room with a jacuzzi tub,
king-sized bed, and fireplace. Our dog loves to swim in the lake and
join us on the hiking trails. We appreciate everyone's hospitality-the
staff is wonderful and accomadating. We plan on returning year after year!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Inn, with working fireplaces, whirlpool baths and private sundecks, is located in Upstate New York on a 250-acre private lake. Like resort lodging, Inn at Lake Joseph provides a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including access to a health and fitness spa. But unlike larger hotels, with just 18 guestrooms, a luxurious, yet informal, casual country retreat that assures guests a relaxing, private, rustic mountain lake environment awaits. Very much like the Berkshires, White Mountains, Adirondacks and Poconos, the Catskills surrounding the Inn offer spectacular scenes of lakes and rivers, as well as hiking trails with views of majestic peaks and isolated waterfalls. However, unlike these other regions, The Inn is no more than 2 hours from New York City. ... more   less
