We always stay at the Inn at Lake Joseph in Forestburgh when we go to concerts at the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center. The main guest house is situated on a lovely green lawn with nearby woods leading down to the shared community lake. We stayed in Laurel, one of several cabin-like buildings (they share some common walls with other units) apart from the main house. Laurel has a really comfortable King bed, kitchen, flat-screen TV and jacuzzi tub. There's also a grill on the deck. Breakfast is served daily in the main house, where guests can choose from a menu of made-to-order eggs, pancakes or waffles and breakfast accompaniments like bacon and sausage. Fruit, cereal and bread for toasting are also available on the buffet table. Throughout the afternoon, Inn at Lake Joseph also invites guests to help themselves to sandwich fixings and salads in the fridge, so you can stay at the property and enjoy the pool, the bikes, the lake or simply sit and read a book without leaving for lunch. If you do want to check out the area restaurants, the innkeepers provide a pretty good rundown of what's available within a 15-20 mile radius. The drive to Bethel Woods, site of the original Woodstock, is about 16 miles from the inn, but driving and parking in the concert traffic can be challenging, to say the least. A better alternative, we think, is to drive about 7 miles from the inn to the Monticello Casino and Raceway, park and catch a concert bus (actually a school bus) operated by Big V Entertainment. They drive you to a concert in less time than it would take you to drive yourself and return you to the raceway after the concert via some back routes. Then you drive yourself back to the inn for a good night's sleep.

- Inn At Lake Joseph Hotel Forestburgh
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Inn, with working fireplaces, whirlpool baths and private sundecks, is located high in the Catskill Mountains on a 250-acre private lake. Like resort lodging, the Inn provides a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including access to a health and fitness spa. But unlike larger hotels, the Inn, with just 17 guestrooms, is a luxurious, yet informal, casual country retreat that assures guests a relaxing, private, rustic mountain lake environment. Very much like the Berkshires, White Mountains, Adirondacks and Poconos, the Catskills surrounding the Inn offer spectacular scenes of lakes and rivers, as well as hiking trails with views of majestic peaks and isolated waterfalls. However, unlike these other regions, the Inn is no more than 2 hours from New York City. ... more less
