“Better than expected for a diner.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

If the service was as good as the food my experience would have been better. It took 2 more customers coming in the door before I was asked to be seated. Even then they looked right past me to the larger group. My server had No person aloft whatsoever but what would I expect from a diner. The cheese omelet and the fruit salad was quite tasty so I will overlook Mr. Personality.

“Tell 'em your Uncle Vito is friends with the owner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Just a short drive up 94th St. from La Guardia Airport sits the Buccaneer, one of the classic diners that become the center of the neighborhood universe in Queens, NY. Wait staff is friendly, food is fresh and portions are substantial, and as with all NY diners, the menu choices are equivalent to the word count of a short novel. The review relates to the daily specials, which offer entrees at prices that are either incredible bargains or perhaps, just maybe, that filet of sole or sea bass might actually be a distant cousin in the fish family tree. So ask - hey, it's New York, get an attitude - get 'em to commit to what's being served, and if you don't like it when served, throw it back, there's plenty of good food within their diner. Oh yeah, and the bathrooms - they're down some steep and narrow stairs, so if mobility or your alcohol consumption goals are relevant, plan accordingly.

“Huge Menu and Friendly Service”

I enjoy this place a lot. There are plenty of menu choices and the food is very good with large portions. There are also many bakery items. I would recommend highly.

“Old fashioned diner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

This is what Queens diners used to be, before they decided to masquerade as something else. It was really a pleasant surprise to discover it. The food is great, large portions, well cooked, creative, and the service is good as well. The prices are reasonable, not inflated like a lot of the other diners. It's a short cab ride from LaGuardia airport, and it is open 24/7. Most Queens diners used to be, now it's a rarity when you find one. And I had an absolutely awesome cheeseburger, cooked to perfection, dripping with cheese and a lot of fried onions (no extra charge for the onions!). My husband had Greek spinach pie - and it was excellent as well. A delightful experience.
