“When we don't know where to go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We have been going to Joey B's since they openned on Whitney Road almost 20 years ago. We tend to go about 6 - 10 times a year so we would be called regulars. While the menu and the food are predictable, the menu has basically been the same for 20 years with some new additions, Joey CAN cook. The price value is excellent. Where else can you get 8 ribs in a rack of lamb with 2 veggies and salad for $24. Steak is about 8 oz and perfectly cooked. Asking for the lamb medium rare you get medium rare. Having been to many places around the world if you get 4 ribs for $30 with 1 veg you are lucky. The wine list is short but very reasonable. nothing over $24. Starters are basically nonexistant but you get with the meal soup or salad. The soups are great. Desserts are reasonable ($6 - 8) and are excellent. Service is VERY informal and the waitresses (and owner) dress down which if you are looking for a high end place with formal service you will be disappointed. In the summer the outside deck is great for watching the canal in Fairport. Indoors it can be noisy. So basically if you want a great dinner with very informal service for 2 with 3 courses and wine and tax and tip for less then $90 then come. We have for 20 years.

“First visit, very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

This was our first time visit and went with a group of friends. Even though they were only half full, service was abit slow and at times our server seemed slightly overwhelmed.... Although she was trying her best. The entrees were at a higher price point, but the staff was dressed in t-shirts.... Don't know if it was a summer thing or what.....
Menu choices were good but not extensive. All entrees came with accompanying salad and choice of starch. The starter salads were quite large and very good. My salmon was excellent, my husband had the pork tenderloin which was also very good.
We opted to skip dessert and walk down the way for ice cream instead. The restaurant was abit noisy as the evening continued. We may consider sitting outside if we were to go again. Still debating if we will go back though...

“First big disappointment in over 20 years of eating here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We will not rush back. Have always loved Joey's rack of lamb. Have been eating it here and at that previous location for over 20 years. Was never disappointed until last night. 3 of the 4 of us ordered the rack of lamb and all agreed it was mostly fat and not even close to what we'd had here in the past. When our server asked how it was we all said we were disappointed. Our server went back to Chef/Owner Joey who said," we should have said something earlier and he could have done something about it". He offered nothing; no desert, price adjustment, nothing. He must have been having a bad day but we will not rush back.

“What a deal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

The three-for-$18 is a really good deal. Wide choice of entrees, soup or salad and fabulous desert. (Had the chocolate tart).

“Good food but very noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

The food was quite good and portion sizes were generous but the noise level was so high that it was extremely difficult to hear people in our party of 5. There weren't any large or boisterous parties either. In the summer there is outside seating overlooking the canal, but in indoor weather if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner, this wouldn't be the place.
The hostess originally gave our party of 5 a table cramped into the corner although there was a very spacious 5 top right behind us. When one of our party asked to switch, he got a lot of grief and was told that "someone might have requested the other table". He said where does it say that on the reservation list and was told 'we just know". We did get moved and the original 5 top stayed vacant for over an hour. After we moved, the service was fine.
