Had the worst experience at this hotel ever. I travel for a living and the Pan Am hotel is number one for worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I rarely have a bad night anywhere. The Pan Am on some nights has a night club. If your room happens to be near the nightclub you will be awake untill 4am unless you are deaf. My room was directly above club and not only could I hear all the lyrics to the songs the DJ was playing they would every ten minutes or so throw all the empty beer bottles into the dumpster to make sure you were awake. I went to front desk and they were rude and unpleasant. They told me they warn people about the noise on club nights and the hotel was full so I couldn't change rooms. I never never never would've booked a room above a loud nightclub. I tried to get a refund for the night from hell, but the hotel blew me off and told me to bad you spent the night. Avoid this hotel at all costs, they do not care about you they just want your money.

We were booked in to this Hotel by an agent. On looking it up we had a concern or three, but decided to suck it and see. Our contact started at JFK a telephone call to the hotel. We were told 10 min and the curtesy Bus would pick us up, 6 min the Bus arrived, a bright young driver who spent the whole drive telling us all about the areas we were passing and all the things we should see and the best ways of getting about. The Hotel reception was a little spartan but efficient. No one to take bags to the room, this and the tired decor reminded us that this was a budget 3* At first view of the room and my wife was not happy. The Blood/Or Other small red/brown mark on the bed cover did not help. I went out to find staff. The room maid was in the next room. Very quick to grasp the situation she had the bed changed, demonstrating how clean all the bedding was. On close looking the room was tired. the furniture and decor Old, A few marks and scuffs But all considered it was clean. The great Plus of this Hotel is the Staff, without exception every member we met during our stay, went the extra mile and a half to be help full. It would be wrong to select any one but the concierges were as to be expected mines of useful information and only to willing to advise. The dinning room provided good food at a fair price. We only had one evening meal but we happily had breakfast each day, as well as the good food, The staff made a great start to each day. All in All The deficits that are, on the whole cosmetic are out weighed by the positives at this Hotel

I stayed with my family in this hell hole May13.Staying in this hotel is sheer waste of money. Stay off. Each and every aspect of this hotel is an absolute disaster. Airport Pickup : keep waiting at the airport forever before the shuttle comes in! Thereafter, keep waiting inside the shuttle as it picks up more and more guests all at the same time from all airports! Frontdesk Staff : Worst part of the hotel- they are rude, impolite, un-courteous to say the least and wil make you feel that they are doing you a favour by letting you in! Rooms : Dirty, unclean linen, very unhelathy unclean quilts, basic facilities like coffee makers etc missing, bathroom extremely dirty ,broken taps,

Room Tip: Dont bother to say here. No rooms are worth.

We express our apologies that the Airport Shuttle Service was delayed upon your arrival and that it took extra time for your transfer to our location. We are one of the only NYC Hotel shuttle services that provides these transfers to BOTH New York Airports, and given traffic conditions, etc., pickup and delivery times could be extended beyond the normal 10-25 minutes. Notwithstanding your other harsh comments, please note that over the past 12 months we have rented over 60,000 room/nights to visitors from all over the world. And while reviews on websites represent the experiences of less than 1% of our entire client base, we still maintain 3 1/2 to 4 stars ratings on a range of items from service to cleanliness. We regret that your stay was not satisfactory, we always encourage our guests to inform Housekeeping or Guest Services if anything at all is not properly prepared in the rooms. We hope you will again consider our property with our assurance of complete satisfaction.

My brother and I stayed at this hotel for six nights just under a week ago. I understand that hotels in New York are ridiculously expensive, so was prepared for this hotel to be basic, but Pan Am exceeded my expectations for how scummy it was. The location is good for the metro, being only around half a mile away, but is located in one of the seediest areas I have ever been. Walking to and from the hotel after dark was accompanied by the threat of mugging ever single day.
The hotel did not provide the usual tea/coffee facilities or even a safe. It did, however, have a fridge, which was a welcome surprise. The most ridiculous thing that it did not provide was wi-fi, except in the public areas, meaning that the lobby was always very crowded, and especially when we were there, filled with the sound of telenovelas, which unless you enjoy that sort of thing, was a nightmare. The hotel offers workstations for those who do not bring wifi-enabled devices, but warns you of a 15 minute time limit and a charge if you do anything on the computer, including changing icons or downloading pornography (which I suppose is understandable, but a little presumptuous).
Every morning as we left the hotel, we were harassed by the maids who could not understand that the Do Not Disturb sign on the door meant that we did not want to be disturbed or want a service. The restaurant for the hotel, a hovel named Duke's, served low-quality burgers and knock-off sodas at reasonable prices, at least for New York. It is a much better idea however to walk the half mile down the street to the shopping centre and buy your own drinks from Target and eat at Outback Steakhouse.
In summary, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Also, be prepared to be woken up by the beautiful noises of Queens, such as police sirens and fire engines going past every five minutes.

Room Tip: Try and get away from the road, or just away from the hotel in general!

We very much regret that your stay did not meet with your satisfaction needs, but we must clarify certain points which may be misleading to the reader: Regarding our Lobby guest computer workstations, these services are provided at no charge to all guests for 15 minutes ONLY if other guests complain they have waited too long. It is to establish a modicum of fairness in using these free-to guest shared amenities. And yes, we do put guests on notice that a fee may be charged (never has been) if they download personal items on to the hard drive, not limited to but including and primarily adult material. For this we make no apology since teens and seniors utilize these free computers as well. In addition, th hotel provides in room internet service throughout the hotel simply by requesting it at the front desk from whom you will receive an access code. Finally, while sometimes guests request No Cleaning Service for their stay, the hotel maintains a policy of a maximum of one day without service, on the second day our housekeeping staff is instructed to remove garbage, check that all appliances are working and that all supplies are adequately provided. In your case, we would not permit a room to go without housekeeping for the six days you reserved. This is for the guest benefit and future guests to that room.

I have travelled Europe .Asia and now North America.And with hand on my heart i can honestly say this is the dirtiest premises i have ever stayed at .Yes its an old Hotel and really only suited for backpackers.But that does not excuse the dirt.My room was on the first floor and we arrived very late tired from a long day travel back to NY.we checked in here through Vivastay who recommended this Queens hotel to us ..I wanted to be near friends who live in Queens.What a big mistake.The bed linen was either not washed and not ironed,Was old and grey not white.The room air con made a terrible racket and was covered in filth ..The wardrobe door was loose and inside was a fridge also not washed out and hummed all night.The carpet between the beds had a big vomit stain on it.We were tired and just fell asleep .But early next morning checked out of that doss house as quickly as possible.Yes i refused to even look at another room.The atmosphere there was very strange .With the help of our American friends we found another Hotel nearby.I wish i had never heard of the name Pan American.They need to change the title from Hotel to Hostel.

My friends recommended this hotel, because it has free pickup from the airport (JFK or LGA) and because it has two tour companies pick up and drop off tourists for a day tour of New York City. Convenient, if you only have a weekend in the city, like we did, and it did not disappoint.
It is an old building, and the room is more like a motel, than a hotel, but very clean, and for a price of $99 plus tax on a weekend offers a great alternative for a budget-minded traveler, especially, if traveling as a couple, or a family, and not willing to go for a hostel accommodation in the center (financially does not make sense either). It takes only half an hour to get to Times Square - a subway is about 5-10 min distance depending on how fast you walk (10 if you haul a suitcase behind you). The neighborhood is multicultural, rather safe (we walked after dark), has a Wendy joint open late. Sunrise bakery - a couple of blocks up the boulevard - has awesome baked goodies, rather inexpensive, tea / coffee (tasting surprisingly good), bubble tea and smoothies, excellent place for breakfast. A Chinese restaurant (or rather eatery + a mini-market) despite its variety of smells serves typical good Chinese fare - for less than 5 bucks you can have lunch or dinner combo. It beats the inconvenience of not having a coffeemaker in the room. Check-in and check-out were fast and efficient. We didn't ask much at the front desk, as we came prepared by the Tripadvisor's reviews. There is coffee in the lobby between 4 and 7 a.m. and a hot water tank to make tea, which stays hot later on for breakfast. There is also a microwave in the cupboard, so you could make a cup of tea for your late snack, using the boiled water from the tank, or heat a pack of instant soup. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, and there are two workstations, which you could use for 20 min if there is a line-up and indefinitely if you are the only one out there:)
Up in the room we did not hear a band playing in the restaurant on Saturday night - it was live Latin music, barely audible in the lobby, where people enjoyed it free Wi-Fi.
Tips:
1) We got a room facing the street, which was quite noisy, despite asking for a quiet one (it did not matter after a long flight, we crashed and would not hear fireworks right below, but others might not be as lucky:)). So, if you book in advance, take care and call them a couple of times to make sure they plan for a quiet one when you arrive.
2) If you plan to reuse empty cups or containers, HIDE THEM - the maid comes in, and even if you tell her NOT to clean anything, just to replace towels, she dutifully throws everything in the garbage and disposes of it. Next time I'd put a 'do not disturb' sign.
3) If you plan to use subway to get to the airport - be mindful, it does not have escalators, so if you have two overweight suitcases, taking Pan-Am's $10/per person shuttle is a much better
option.
4) If you decide to pick in between two city tours offered - I would definitely recommend Topaz tours. It may not cover the whole city, but the service and ambiance was excellent and you may ask the driver / tour-guide about the places you would like to visit on your own later on.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter room you have to confirm after you reserve that the room booked will be indeed...

The room itself was passable and the rate was reasonable for New york standards no laundry bag was provided . Could have done without the early morning wake up call with loud music coming from a club down the street . There was a ratling noise that sounded like a jackhammer coming from the elevator behind the room it took me awhile to figure out where the noise was coming from requested another room however none were available. Moved to another hotel the next day decided an extra 20.00 a night was worth it for a good nights sleep . Also advise takeing a taxi back to the hotel at night made the mistake of going to diner the first night around11pm {my flight got in late} and four thugs stopped at a light began obscene threating language while i was waiting to cross the street luckily an NYPD patrol car stopped behind them and they ceased there behavior the boulevard has definately seen better days from when the gals at from Pan AM airlines were staying there.
