I have been to Maldives several times. During the last twelve months, I visited Maldives about six times, approximately one visit each two months during different seasons, The Wet Season(rainy) & The Dry Season(sunny).Every time I used to stay in different Resort category, normally 5* & 4* to taste a new experience. All my booking I used to make it with one of the resorts at North Male Atoll or South Male Atoll which they are bordered by Meeru Island Resort & Olhuveli Resort respectively due to proximity to the airport and benefiting from 24 hours boat transfers service, which is itself is saving in cost and time comparing to sea plane transfer. The transfer time is ranging between10 minutes to Kurumba Resort and max. 60 minutes to the last resorts in these two Atolls ,.
this is my third visit to Kurumba Resort since I used to spend my holidays in Maldives. The Kurumba Resort is the only 5* Resort with proximity of Male’ International Airport, where luxury transfer is available 24 hours and it takes 10 minutes only. When you pip out of the airport within short time, you are in paradise.
The island of Kurumba Resort is round in shape, which can be walked within 20 minutes approximately, the pathways within the island are concreted nicely where the pedestrians can walk comfortably and easy strolling for baby strollers and people with difficult mobility. This is not a normal to find it at a Resort in Maldives where most of the Resorts got wet sandy pathways sometimes unleveled which makes it difficult to stroll through especially during the wet seasons. The island got large amount of vegetation and greenery, well maintained which is adding the beauty to the island and provide the feeling of being at semi tropical forest. .
The Airport Arrival was warmly welcomed by the Resort representatives Mr.Naufal & Mr. Sajid, who are taken care of our transfer by the luxury boat from the airport Jetty to the Resort. On arrival the guests get excited by the views of the lagoon turquoise water and the bright green coconut trees and other plants while proceeding towards the reception area through the arrival jetty, we have been welcomed and accompanied by a Senior front office staff.
My booking was for two rooms of the starting room category which is “Superior Room” for two nights. Upon request, I have been allocated the two Superior rooms at the ground level of last block (i.e. 136 & 138 which are closer to the beach.)
The Reception Area : is specious of high ceiling open air area with granite flooring and enough comfortable waiting sofas surrounded by water canals to create refreshing environment. The check-in process starts at the arrival air condition lounge, where the arrival guests will be registered and briefed about their accommodation and Resort facilities after been welcomed by refreshing cold towels and welcome coconut ice-cream, and then will be accompanied by one of the staff to their respective room.
The Accommodation : at Kurumba Resort consists of different categories, but I would recommend only two categories where you feel luxury retreat within the paradise, and they are the Superior Rooms and Beach Front Bungalows.
The Superior Rooms (Rooms numbers131-138) basically consists of blocks, each block with four rooms two at Ground Level and two at Upper Level and they are making semi-circle in shape facing the beach and close to reception and facilities area, in the middle they are far and on the sides they are close to the beach. The odd numbers are for the ground levels and the dual numbers are for the upper levels. Both rooms levels either balcony or terrace with comfortable seating arrangements and day beds. The room is specious with luxury amenities and additional day bed which can be used as additional bed for third guest. The bathroom is semi open air with rocky flooring garden and open air shower, marble side laid Bath Tub, Standing Shower and wash basin. The Ground level of Superior Rooms have the advantage of dual access, one is rear through the main entrance and the other is front through the terrace which gets speedy access to the facilities, while the Upper Level got only rear narrow stair case which is not recommended for people with difficult mobility. If you are booking for Superior Room try to request for the last block, which is close to the beach (Rooms numbers 136 &138 for Ground level and 135 & 137 for Upper level).
The Beach Front Bungalows scattered within different locations in the island with proximity as much as possible to the beach, where some units it is only few steps to the sea and from the bed itself the guest can enjoy the lagoon turquoise water. The bungalows are well maintained and specious, with luxury furniture, large glass frontage for natural light and viewing the beach from the bed itself, wooden floor, superior amenities and day bed which can be used for third guest. The patio is the jewel of the Deluxe Bungalow relaxation, where a luxury seating arrangements with day bed, dining table with chairs and both sides open views with semi partition (one side of them). The bathroom is specious semi-open air with rocky flooring garden and open air shower, centered Bath Tub, Standing Shower and two wash basins.
The Deluxe Bungalows are same as Beach Front Bungalows but with garden view and far from the beach compared to other categories. Although the Deluxe Bungalows numbers 139-143 are sold as Deluxe Bungalows, but in fact I consider them as Beach Front Bungalows as they are few steps from the water comparing to the other units of the Deluxe Bungalows, which are far from the beach comparatively. If you are booking for Deluxe Bungalows try to request for the Bungalows numbers 139-143, you will love it!.
The Deluxe Rooms are the most far units from the reception and other facilities. The rooms are smaller in size and bathrooms are smaller as well. These rooms are higher in rate, but it is considered as single units for more privacy (you pay more for less benefits compared to other units).
The food outlets: Kurumba Resort has ten food outlets of different types of restaurants, bars and lounges. Vihamana is the main open air restaurant. It is buffet style restaurant with tiles flooring serving three meals a day, breakfast lasts for three hours from 0730 am which I have never seen this breakfast timing in any other Resorts in Maldives so far (other Resorts serve breakfast for only two hours) also they are serving Cappuccino and Espresso as part of buffet breakfast for Standard accommodation categories, which I have never noticed in other Resorts in Maldives so far. Kurumba café is all day dining restaurant with a la carte menu with nice seating around the pool. There are other specialty restaurants which are serving different types of cuisines in Kurumba Resort (Grill, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian & Arabic) which makes Kurumba Resort is paradise of fine dining in Maldives. The beach bar is the jewel of the night entertainment of the Resort, where most night time can be spent under the sky or the moon light with live entertainment changes daily and enjoying the favorite drinks and snacks. The area of the bar and the seating arrangements are super in luxury with cane style furniture and comfortable cushions. The newly added Balinese type chairs creates enjoying romantic atmosphere for the couples. The bar deck area which is facing the water is the most enjoyable area with specious seating arrangements.
The staff: of Kurumba Resort are well cooperative, helpful and attending the requests of the guests with details and try as much as they can to fulfill the requests of the guests.
I would thank Ms. Anusha from The Front Office Department for her cooperation and attending my requests during my booking and taking me for a tour within the resort and giving me the chance of viewing some of the units which I was looking for to view them.
I would recommend only two categories where you feel luxury retreat within the paradise, and they ar...
