“Book Kurumba if you want sun, sea, sand and sophistication”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

This was our second visit to Kurumba and it just gets better and better.
After a long flight from Heathrow, the welcome sight of a fast speedboat waiting to take you on the 10 minute trip from Male airport to the island, is heavenly.
The welcome you receive on arrival at the jetty is also legendery, with coconut ice cream to cool you as the 96 degree hot sun beats down.
If you are tempted by the Maldives but have never visited before - don't hold back. You will be amazed and, despite there being more than 80 resorts to choose from, you will not go wrong if you settle for Kurumba.
What appears in reviews beneath this is pretty much all to be believed. It is a paradise destination, the prices are reasonable and I challenge you find find anywhere where you are better looked after.
If you are a foodie, there are eight restaurants to chose from, serving exquisite fare from around the world. Head chef Ralf ensures all his staff are at the top of their game and the meals are amazing.
For a special treat, we recommend the Ocean Grill, an open-air, over-water a la carte restaurant where you can watch baby sharks and manta rays swimming beneath you as you dine.
Lovers of Indian food will also not be disappointed either, as mine host Fernando serves up the very best at the Kurumba Mahal.
The best weather, with wall-to-wall sunshine, is from November to June. It can be rainy in the other months - but nothing like Britain! The temperature rarely drops beneath 80 degrees - even at night - but all the rooms are fully air conditioned and beautifuly cool.
There are as many staff on Kurumba as guests - about 400 when it's busy - and they ensure that you want for nothing. They are ALWAYS smiling and nothing is too much trouble. Special mention for Jason Kruse, the general manager and his team including Myla, Leah and Phil who made our stay during Kurumba's 40th anniversary celebrations so memorable.
There's lots to do on Kurumba - particularly if you are into diving and snorkelling. The marine life is fabulous. The resort has also just invested in eco-friendly jet skis and you are encouraged to take one out on a visit to some of the uninhabited islands in the Maldives' North Atoll. Another amazing experience.
Popular too is the nightly sunset cruise where you can watch dolphins jumping as they swim around your boat while the sun provides one of the most dramatic backdrops you will see anywhere.
Kurumba specialises in great cocktails and, as darkness always falls by about 6.30pm, an early evening rendezvous with other guests at the Sand Bar is a must. Make a date to listen to the band too, as they entertain on the beach before dinner.
The accommodation range is excellent with bungalows and villas dotted all around the water's edge. Some of the rooms are literally just five steps from the amazing azure-blue lagoon which surrounds Kurumba, thanks to a breakwater. This ensures the water is always smooth and crystal clear but allows hundreds of rare species of fish to swim with you.
We recommend the Pool villas with their walled gardens and private swimming pools - brilliant for midnight dips under the stars in total privacy!
It is hard to believe but we can find nothing to criticise about this resort. It's child friendly, never overcrowded and is always paying attention to detail. Perhaps the fact that it has thousands of repeat guests - some of whom have visited more than 70 times since Kurumba was created in 1972 - speaks for itself.
The island has a saying that holidaymakers arrive as a guest and leave as a friend. It is so true. We'll definitely be back.
Neil Hyde.

Brilliant managemnet, staff, destination, views, rooms and the selection of beverages at The Sand Bar, the atmosphere, the photo opportunities, the Veli Spa (my favourite) and The Kurumba Boutique (my 2nd favourite)....there really is so much jam packed onto a tiny little atoll. Pleases the foodie in me too with the Ocean Grill, The Beach Bar, Hamakaze and so many other places I can't remember all of their names. Bathrooms are really appropriate too for a resort island getaway, very serene.
I ate, swam, ate, swam and ate and drank then sleep some more. I did this for 3 full days and enjoyed every minute of it.
We had a sweet ride from Male Int Airport to Kurumba too, met with very friendly staff at all ends of the stay.

Room Tip: They are all close to the water, but we did notice some had no beachfront, choose a beachfront stay.

We just spend a week at Kurumba Resort. We chose the "Honeymoon package" which provides several benefits, such as spa, diner with candles on the beach, free cocktails, etc. We have used various services of the resort, such as the dive center, spa, bars and restaurants and all of them have provided us with highly satisfactory and professional services. All the rooms are just a few steps from the beaches, with comfortable beach chairs, white sand and warm lagoon to swim or snorkel. In sort, the resort was very well maintained with dedicated and professional staff. We especially enjoyed the bathroom open on a small private garden. We went diving with the dive center operated by Euro Divers, and despite they had many beginners, they paid attention to take us to nice diving sites matching our (extensive) diving experience. On the dark side, we had a lot of rain at the end of October, and very few sunny hours, so pictures of blue sky and sunny lagoons may be misleading, since Maldives is a quite humid region, specially from April to October.

Have stayed here many times and have never had any issues so far, big plus for their pleasant staff and well maintained accommodation. Close enough to the airport so it does not involve too much traveling time esp after a long flight in.

I and my husband visited kurumba Maldives at the end of October 2012. We had requested for a beach facing deluxe room and they took care of our request. The room location was amazing and the room too. We had stayed at room# 216. The room service was good. Full length mirror, open bath-tub, safe-lock, coconut-glycerin soap, extra length beach towels, beers, wines all were really nice!! My husband loved the chocolate milkshake. The entire staff was very friendly and supportive. The check-in and check-out was very comfortable. Warm welcome with the coconut ice-cream was really superb..!! Yes, beach is the main attraction at Maldives. Apart from the beach, the restaurants, bars, water sports, swimming pools, tennis court, gym, table tennis were really nice at kurumba. Breakfast at Bihamana was really awesome. You will get all kind of food from Indian and Chinese to French and European for breakfast. We used to spend our evenings at the Beach bar with the world’s best wines and scotches. We had our dinner at Ocean grill once. It was really romantic and the grilled Jumbo prawns were the real match. And one day, we spent sometime in the afternoon at the sand bar it was amazing and the bar tender Sampath was also very friendly. Complementary snorkeling lesson was really very helpful. You will get very nice house reefs there. We did a little shopping from boutique Breeze. It has got a really great collection. It’s really hot there. Don’t forget to take lot of sunscreen and sunburn gel. Spa is also very nice! Everything was so perfect..!! It’s really heaven. Whatever they charge, it is worth for. We would definitely visit kurumaba once again. I highly recommend it.

I spent 6 days with a friend of mine at Kurumba and I owuld highly recommend this resort! The entire experience was so seamless. The staff are amazingly friendly and you determine the level of interaction that you want with other guests on your holiday. We opted for total R&R in a deluxe bunglaow and the resort is so well designed you hardly saw anyone else near your room. The room itself was truly gorgeous and so well designed (the coconut soap is to die for!). The resort is immaculate with staff grooming the sand every day. The beaches make it all too easy to jump in for a swim or snorkel. All the gear is provided on the island.
We went for the Dine Around All Inclusive package and I don't think we even got near spending $179 US per person per day! If you were drinking alcohol I reckon you could give it a nudge!
The restaurants were great - so much to choose from. The japanese one was a particular standout with a whole lobster teppenyaki that was to die for. The wood fired pizzas are a must too!
The spa was outstanding. Do book in early for treatments though as they get quite busy. I had the facial and the body scrub & wrap. I would highly recommend both!
All up, a great resort for families, couples & singles! I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: If you can stretch it the Deluxe bungalow was great!
