My wife and I have been attending the May corvette rally at the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham, NY, on and off for seven years. The founders built the resort many years ago, so the accommodations are clean but dated. However, the dining hall and downstairs nightclub are brand new, rebuilt from the ground up after a fire in 2011. Then again, the draw was a weekend out in the Catskills with fellow corvette enthusiasts. That’s what attracted us to the resort and that’s why we return. The 1st year, my wife and I stayed in a two story bungalow away from our main group. The room was clean but had a musty smell. The accommodations were marginal at best and the price was high. It rained Friday and Saturday but the weather broke for the show on Sunday. The food is included in the price, so was a cruise and train ride on Saturday afternoon. Overall, the weekend was quite enjoyable. We certainly didn’t go hungry and the staff was great!
The 2nd time we moved down to the “porch” directly across from the dining hall. The rooms were bigger and came equipped with a small kitchenette. After the Saturday cruise, our group took advantage of the seating on the porch to get together for some fun, laughter, and shenanigans. Now, we stay at the porch rooms whenever we come up for a corvette show.
Next year, 2014, the corvette rally is in mid June rather than mid May. According to the locals, the weather is nicer and the temperature a wee bit more enduring. The change in show dates to June and the continued renovation by the resort staff may restore event attendance to past levels. We shall see next year. Our room is booked and we look forward again to good times.

My galpals and I bring the RV down to Blackthorne at least once a year, sometimes more - for the motorcycle rally or other events. This is an event drive resort; motorcycles, PJ parties, scavenger hunts, corvette weekends, you name it, pick your favorite event weekend there is something for everyone. A family owned enterprise, the folks there truly make you feel like family yourself - and that includes the regulars and seasonal folks that stays all year, as well as the folks that run the resort. There has always been a friendly face to welcome us and help us get settled in. The bar since the remodel is both gorgeous and gigantic. The music they bring in for events is some of the best you will find around Albany and Northeast, for the biggest motorcycle rally in September they always get big nationally known names in rock/southern rock (.38 Special, Molly Hatchet etc.). The girlfriends and I do a few girls weekends every summer and Blackthorne is always our favorite. We get to cheat a bit at the whole "camping" experience by eating at the buffet and drinking at the bar, so we are not exactly "roughing it", but all the better as far as we are concerned. We can take a nice nature walk or ride and enjoy the great outdoors while still walking to the conveniences and not having to pack much :-) Good friends, good food, good times.

Our stay was pretty awful mostly because of our room - musty carpeting, tiny bathroom, outdated room. The mites in the carpet caused my husband's allergies to flare. The cleaning staff never came into our room (beds left unmade, bathroom not tidied). The dining room has been renovated. The breakfasts and dinners were mediocre. There was no flexibility around meals at this all-inclusive - if you miss a meal, too bad even though you have paid for it. Pool and deck need updating, so do many of the facilities. Stay away from this place!

Room Tip: Find another place to stay at if you go to this beautiful region.

I cannot say a bad thing about Blackthorne Resort. My girlfriends and I go up twice a year and plan too every year for as long as possible. The staff is very nice and fun! The food is great and it truly is the fun place to be. I have stayed on Blackthorne and at the Weldon House. The shuttle from Weldon to Blackthorne during Catskill Mountain Thunder was very convenient and never had to wait longer then 15 minutes for it to arrive and ran well into the night. The rooms at Blackthorne seemed bigger then at Weldon but the bathrooms at Weldon were bigger then at Blackthorne but they were very clean and well taken care of.

They do not skimp on entertainment. From bands to contests to just being around people who are happy to be there. The environment is unmatched to anywhere I have ever been before. You feel like family from the moment you arrive till the moment you leave.

I can't wait till Memorial Day weekend to be back!

I had a great time here! I was up there a few weeks ago and I could not have been treated nicer. swimming in the creek right next to the resort was great! they have a very large pool which is always clean and maintained well have been going to Blackthorn for years and always love it. . between magic shows go karting rides and rock climbing Blackthorne resort is a great place for kids. the place is family owned and they always treat you like family when you're there. thanks for a great time!!

Very poor quality for fee charged. Rooms are very old. Lacks security. Pool in desperate need of cleaning. Staff was friendly. I wouldn't even call it a 1 star accommodation. Would never make a return trip.
