“5 stars simply isn't enough!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

I stayed at The Knowe with my family for my birthday in April and it is without doubt the most beautiful house I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and Karen went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect for our stay, even down to providing gluten free foods for my sister's dietary requirements! So much love and care has evidently gone into making the house as beautiful as it can possibly be. The bedrooms were stunning, pristine and so comfortable, I almost didn't want to leave my bed in the morning, although the enticing smell of our cooked breakfasts lured us out eventually! Breakfast was unbelievably yummy, best full English I've ever had! A selection of other foods were also provided, I think we had a bit of everything, including some chocolate muffins!! (I didn't feel too guilty, it was my birthday after all!) To top it off, we were sitting in yet another beautifully decorated room, with a lovely view of the back garden. The guest sitting room was a fantastic area - books, dvds, sky tv and fabulous wallpaper! If we didn't have a trip to the observatory planned I could quite happily have spent all night relaxing in that room.

Words really can't describe how stunning this B&B is and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is venturing down to the area for whatever reason. The scenery, the interior design and the wonderful hosts made our weekend away so enjoyable. I hope we get a chance to come back for another stay!

Many thanks from the Sabbagh family!

We were welcomed in from the rain with hot drinks and home- made cakes. Our room and the house was cosy and beautifully decorated. The dinner was delicious and we were given a choice of food and courses. Our hearty breakfast set us up for a day's cycling. We were cycling the end to end and stayed in a different B&B everynight, some costing more, but this is undoubtedly one of the nicest and I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed this past weekend with friends at this magic B&B. Make a wish and Karen granted it. Amazing host and beautiful house where nothing was too much trouble. This B&B has many lovely surprises like a caramel wafer as a snack, doughnuts for breakfast and an amazing shower head. Great place to stay and highly recommended.

Simply the best B&B we have ever stayed at. It is obvious immediately that so much energy, care, creativity and imagination have gone into this amazing place. It was a run-down Victorian manse (church house) but the hosts have captured the character of the house but given it a bright, contemporary upgrade from top to bottom. Top quality everywhere from fittings and décor to food and presentation. We were not surprised to lean that Karen, the lovely and friendly hostess, was a professional interior designer.

Karen should be hired by VisitScotland as a consultant to show others how to deliver top quality, best value accommodation. B&B doesn't get any better. This should be the template for Scottish tourism.

Galloway is an amazing area which we'll be back to explore further and we'll certainly be back at the Knowe. Don't hesitate to book - this is the best you will find anywhere! Total comfort, fantastic shower, free wifi and smart tv, great local food and genuine friendliness and care.

We stayed with another couple to visit the dark skies. The B and B was exceptional. Lovely attention to detail. I won't spoil the shortbread surprise! Everything clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed coming back to the residents sitting room for a wee dram, the dark skies amazing and about twenty mins drive away. Be sure you get directions.

The Knowe is a lovely b&b with very welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. The house itself is lovely from outside and in. Our room was spacious, well thought out and equipped and wonderfully clean with a lovely en suite - no weak, dribbly shower! Breakfast was served in the dining room looking out on to the garden (a work in progress according to Karen and Harry) which will be beautiful in the summer. The food was well prepared and filled us up for hours. We also pre booked an evening meal on our first night - again, a lovely meal. Looking forward to visiting again to explore the area in summer weather.

We stayed for two nights at "The Knowe" we travel a lot and use this type of accommodation regularly, this is streets ahead of the best. The bedroom was perfect, the welcome was warm and genuine, the food great and there is nothing that was too much trouble for Karen the owner. The recommendation for eating out was spot on (The Clachan Arms a few miles away, not to be missed). It is always the little things that make the difference and there were so many for us.
We can't wait to go again. The location is grand - views out onto the moors opposite.

Room Tip: Just go - the place is great.
