My husband booked this room as a romantic overnight getaway. The room was huge and gorgeous and historically fascinating but it was LOUD. (I think we had the George Eliot room). There was a party on the first floor and our room was directly over the heavy wooden door used by partygoers sneaking out for a smoke so every few minutes there was a loud, jarring thump. After the party ended, the door thumping stopped only to be replaced by the noise of the bar being moved. I literally slept about 1 hour the whole night. The room was lovely but I didn't really want to admire it all through the night. Next time I will request a room on the top floor.
