“This restaurant would be good *anywhere* !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

In this part of rural New York, the restaurant choices are limited -- but Poolville Country Store Restaurant is good by the standard of any region of the U.S. !

First, the service is friendly. Our wait for a table was a bit long - because we arrived early for a 9:30 pm seating (as this was the only time available on a busy week-end). The server at the bar offered a wine/beer list with nice selections, and complimentary nuts (very good !).

When we were seated, most guests had departed - the place was quiet - the service was good - and the food was excellent ! Soups, breads, deserts, including sorbet/ice cream are made on-site.

We did not stay at the B&B here - but it looked like a great location for a stay as well.

“Food is great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Excellent, by Hamilton standards. By SF standards or any other foodie city I'd say it's good and worth the trip. Nice wines. I've eaten here twice and it was quite nice both times.

“The "Little Gem of Central New York"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2012

This charming, warm and restored old general stored is tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Poolville, New York. This little hamlet is near Colgate University and was the home of world famous pianist, Vivian Harvey Slater.

The Poolville Country store not only is comprised of the restaurant, but also has several other out buildings and an absolutely wonderful little cottage. Many taverlers and campus visitors stay at this first rate, clean and comfortable establishment.

The restaurant is one of the finest in central New York. Owners and chefs, Roger and Charles are classically trained and their menus are imaginative, beautifully presented and of course, delectable. Most of the prepared food is either raised or grown locally and is all organic. The fresh fish is flown in daily from Hawaii. The menu is not large because the food is prepared on site, but there is something available for everyone's taste. From every appetizer to every entree to every dessert, the food is the quality that one would expect in a large city which would carry a large price. There is a good wine list and also microbrewed beer available. This little jewel is not to be missed. It is truly the best any restaurant can be.

“Excellent food, atmosphere”

Outside of Hamilton in the quaint 4-corners of Poolville. Delicious everything. Attention to detail. Local ingredients. Quality.

“Would have been better if everything was hot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011 via mobile

I recently dined there with a group of friends. We had all been there before and had enjoyed that visit. Generally, our recent meal was good. The problem is that it was good...not great. The pear tart appetizer was almost like a dessert rather than an appetizer. People generally enjoyed their entrees. However, those who got the steak special found it a bit tough. And, everyone whose entree came with the rice pilaf and squash commented that the main focus of the dish was hot, but the sides were barely warm. The Kahlua torte was strangely lacking in Kahlua flavor.

The service was excellent. The atmosphere was decorated for the holidays but not overdone.

I would go there again, but am disappointed that they didn't "hit it out of the park".
