It's a trip back in time; when you had nothing to worry about but which bathing suit was dry. We stayed in the main lodge as we booked late and all cabins were sold out. Being we could only stay for two nights, it was the best location for us anyway. Our group consisted of 4 women ages 40-60, no kids (on the trip with us). We read our books in comfy lounge chairs along the waters edge, and watched the children learn how to water-ski. The next day we rented a pontoon boat for the afternoon and drove all around the lake taking in the gorgeous scenery, and beautiful homes and boathouses. As we came into dock that evening, we stopped and watched a pair of loons, and then listened to them all night from our rooms.
We had brought minimal food as we drove in from Chicago, so had little space in our car. There were restaurants available, in the little town nearby (Can't recall the name..) but Covewood is missing some opportunity in selling easy, snack items. Once a week (Tues, maybe?) they cook homemade doughnuts, which were absolutely divine.
I would highly recommend for families and extended families. Every child there was on cloud nine, activities galore. And it was fun to simply watch them create and play in the field.
A place like no other. Leave your cell phone, laptop, and PSP at home, and rekindle your love for the outdoors.

Covewood Lodge is a beautiful rustic, but still comfy, Adirondack lodge right on Big Moose Lake, with so many classy traditions. You can stay in the lodge or rent an apartment (bring you own sheets and towels.) All guests have full access to the children''s beach, large series of docks, boat, canoe, kayak, sailboat rental, waterskiing lessons, tennis courts, and hiking trails. If parents need a break, there is a children's program with fun activities planned each morning and afternoon. There is no cell phone service at Covewood; a really great feature for the family who wants to tune out and be together. We have gone to Covewood for the past 42 years; my kids love it as much as I have over the years.

My son and I visited Covewood Lodge for 3 days staying in their smallest one room cabin which was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The owners Major and Di went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of even though the resort did not open for a week we had the run of the place. The weather did not coorperate and it was cold in the high 30's and 40's Major came in and made sure we knew how to run the heater and had plently of wood for the fire place. We hiked, watched a bear for about an hour a deer followed us home one afternoon and the loons sang us to sleep each night. It was a great relaxing Holiday I can not wait to go back in August!

We just finished our 18th summer at Covewood and we're already counting down the weeks till our return. My parents took me to Covewood as a kid, and my wife and I continued the tradition starting in 1992 -- and we've extended it to our inlaws and nephews! One of the best parts are the friendships with the families in the cabins around us -- and renewing them every year. Within an hour of our return each summer, it's as if the past 51 weeks have disappeared; the kids are playing and swimming, picking up where they left off.
The cabins are rustic, clean, and comfortable. Our son has made lifelong friends and Covewood is a place where we were able to send him off to the children's program activities every day knowing he was having a blast and was well-looked-after. Every day brings a new experience (and vistas), as well as an opportunity to revisit decades-long traditions (such as my 6am swim, picking up the homemade doughnuts with my son on Mondays and Thursdays, the Ring Game, sitting in the Buzz Point gazebo, watching the deer, bears, and ducks, hearing the first loon call of the week, playing Password with 15 kids and adults until midnight in Lakeside, camping out at Billy's Bald Spot, swimming to Craig Point and back, kayaking, water skiing lessons from Major and Di, listening to rain pounding on the metal roof at night, wondering if Grace Brown will make a spectral appearance, taking in the views from the huge Main Lodge porch, hiking to Russian Lake, early morning reading on the dock, and many etcs.).
We look forward to returning for many years to come and introducing our grandchildren to the wonderful hospitality of Major and Di.

I discovered Covewood on Big Moose Lake in the mid-80's. Took our children and their friends back summer after summer and now my children and their children return summer after summer with their friends and children. Year after year our kids who were adolescents for several of those years never wanted to leave. No telephone, TV or radio or cellphones and they still hated leaving. Covewood gets into your blood so that the year is measured by how close you are to returning for its bliss and beauty. Everyone I ever told about Covewood became as addicted to it as we were. The natural beauty of the woods and lake and the rustic cabins with all the conveniences necessary make the stay at Covewood idyllic. Kids learned to waterski at the patient hands of Major and Di Bowes. All the boating and recreational needs of any family are available to all. The smells, the scenery, the joy of everyone there, the animals from the chipmunks who we hand fed peanuts to, to the black bears that Major makes sure are well fed and safe from humans are all part of the Covewood experience. You meet up with friends that you've made over the years, be they staff, Bowes family or other vacationers. Covewood has provided this family with the most wonderful family times of our lives and we are always yearning to return. There is no better, more wholesome and rewarding vacation site than Covewood Lodge on Big Moose Lake.

Covewood Lodge has been our family vacation for 5 years now and will continue to be for at least another 10. It is beautiful and the wildlife is amazing. The kids love the beach and feeding deer and chipmonks, in fact, we go through about 8 lbs. of peanuts packed for them each year. The staff is very friendly and helpful which really makes you feel at home, that is, if your home was in the middle of beatiful trees, ferns, deer lakes and bears.

Wonderful location on Big Moose Lake with very caring and hospitable owners and staff. Very family friendly with all sorts of waterfront activities. Comfortable cottages spread amongst a tree lined waterfront with gorgeous mountain and river views and evenings spent seeing and listening to the Loons that inhabit the lake. Few power boats/jet skis spoil the solitude of this special place. We have returned 4 years in a row with family and childrens friends and love it more each year. Spent 7/8 years as a youth here with my parents and siblings 34 years ago. If you are looking for a comfortable, quiet and relaxing time away from a hectic lifestyle this is the place. We all look forward to returning next year.
