“Nice People but property needs improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2011

We stayed here for the memorial day weekend. Check in was easy and they offered golf cart escorts to your camp site which was nice. Unfortunately the campground couldn't handle the increased electricity usage so we were out of power for most of the trip and they didn't even offer a refund of any kind for the inconvenience. If you pay for full hook up and you know that there was a problem, they should have offered you a credit or refund you for the time without electricity. Other than that, the people were very nice and friendly, they had great planned activities for the kids and close to NY. Wasn't able to get Wifi either. You had to get a the ticket from the office for the WiFi access. We realized that they are new owners and they they are trying their best to bring it up to KOA's standards. I'm not sure we would be willing to take a chance there in the near future.

We stayed here the weekend after Labor Day and had a great time. The staff is incredibly friendly and there are several amenities. Many sites have water/electric hookups. There's also a swimming pool (unheated), recreation room with bingo and movie nights, hay rides, train rides (a truck converted to train), arts and crafts, store with all the basics, and the highlight - a bouncing "pillow" which kids and adults loved. Several sites overlook the Neversink River but they may not be appropriate for smaller children. Bathroom and shower facilities were clean. My friend has been to many campgrounds and said this was the best he's ever been to.

If your coming for the heated pool, don't bother! Its either broken or wasnt turned on. So it was cold due to the weather and cool nights. Mist of the staff was either very nice. Only dealt with a grumpy older man and a young woman who seemed to rather be anywhere but there.

The new owners of this campground are making some dramatic improvements. First of all, this campground is now a KOA so they are required to have higher standards. I believe it was once the American Family Campground and it was very dilapidated. We stayed here mid-week (August 16, 17 and 18) and it was like a ghost town. There is a lot of work being performed right now. New electrical going in, new cabins being built, areas being reorganized, etc. Construction noise was minimal. The new owners have updated the bathrooms nicely. Each bathroom is essentially a unisex suite consisting of a sink, toilet, shower and plenty of hooks. We were easily able to fit myself, husband and 3 boys (ages 3, 4 and 6) in one unit. They are truly family style bathrooms; however I wonder if they become oversaturated during crowded weekends. There are only 8 units per bath building. One complaint was that I had trouble maintaining my shower water temperature. It was hot one minute and then it would turn cold. Couldn’t figure out how to get consistency and it was really weird since both times I took a shower it was late at night and no one else was using any of the other suites. The pool is very small and in need of repair, not what you would expect from a KOA. I imagine this would be extremely crowded on a hot, summer day. The playground is outdated but I understand there are plans to replace it soon. I also heard they plan to add a waterslide into the pool… although I can’t imagine there is room in the pool for the waterslide exit area…unless the pool is only going to be for the waterslide and maybe they will build a bigger, separate pool? They do have something called a jumping pillow and it was a ton of fun, both for kids and parents. On the day we left (Thursday) in the morning there was a tractor powered hay ride (with very loud camp style music) around the campground. This was followed by a truck incognito as a train pulling two “box cars” around the campground. Our boys loved both rides. The campground has many nice, shaded sites as well as open fields. Each site seems very sufficient. There are some really great river view sites if you are lucky enough to score one, but you will pay a premium. However, I would not want to stay at one of these if you have small children, especially when the river is high. There isn't much between your site and the river and I can easily see how a child could fall over the small stone wall and into the water. There is an access trail to the Neversink River, which is usually a nice clear stream with a gentle current that you can float a tube down. Not on our visit. It was a raging, very high, very muddy river from recent heavy rains. The Rec Room has been redone and from what I could see it is very nice. (There were no activities scheduled during our visit and it was locked.) There is a big picnic area with lots of tables on the back deck overlooking the river. Would be a great spot for lunch / dinner and from the number of the smokers and grills on the deck, I imagine there are cookouts on the weekends. You can also find paddle boats, a fishing pond and bike rentals here. The main road is paved, but other roads throughout the grounds are gravel / packed dirt. The camp store is sufficient, but expensive…then again, every campground store is. The grounds could have used a little more attention. Many areas needed to be mowed badly. Most all seasonal sites are well kept. Overall, this is a campground on the up and up. The staff is very friendly. Once the improvements are made, it will be really great. But, we had a great time regardless and I’m sure we will be back.

We stayed at the new Deerpark KOA for Memorial Day weekend. Our kids had lots of things to do; the hayride, fishing ponds, paddle boats, tubes down the neversink river and the huge jumping pillow! Just a little over an hour from the NYC. We will be back to this great family place.

We are currently relaxing at our site after a late campfire lunch. Hands down, the best family campsite I had ever been to. This includes other KOA sites in the area. Lots of fun man powered vehicles to rent, paddle boats, jump pillow (opened today),fishing, hiking, tubing (we can't wait to come back and do this when it's warmer), and lots of great tent sites.

The staff is very friendly and they are really pet friendly unlike other places that allow pets, but aren't quite "friendly". Our dog Martin is having a great time and has made a few new dog friends.

We really like it here.
