There is a restaurant above a jewelers called Bongs. You go through a small blue door and up a flight of stairs to one of the strangest restaurants I have eaten in, in the US.
Masako is the name of the owner and the idiosyncrasies extend beyond the location. For example the restaurant is only open 11am to 3pm Tuesday through Friday and the kitchen is openly visible when you go to pick up your food, also no two tables or chairs are the same.
However the food is excellent, totally authentic Japanese Bento style and the portions are humongous (my friend had two lunches and a dinner from her teryaki Beef.
The most expensive dish is only $8.50 and there are vegetarian options available. Water, tea or soda are the only beverage options, but did I mention just how good the food is?
If you are looking for something a little different and you happen to be around when Masakos is open, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Excellent value for money.
