We enjoyed our meal at The Cellar which is from my perspective the best restaurant in Corning, and certainly the most innovative. Decor is modern. The bar up front can be noisy at times, but the dining room was peaceful. Service is attentive and staff were knowledgeable about the food selection, a little less so about the beverages. The wine list is presented on an iPad which allows you to sort by price, region, grape, etc. This is very helpful, particularly when combined with the written descriptions of the wine characteristics and ratings. Aided by the list we enjoyed an excellent Peachy Canyon Zinfandel. Our appetizers were Duck Three Ways and Arancini. The duck was nicely presented as prosciutto, rillettes, and foie gras. We thought the pickled ramps and cherries were an excellent accompaniment. The arancini, golf ball size lumps of fried risotto were served with a very good pesto, but we were disappointed that they lacked a filling like we've had at many other restaurants. A chicken breast was slightly overcooked but had an incredibly good flavor. A dish of ahi tuna was served perfectly rare with a spicey harissa sauce. Don't miss the duck fat fries as a side dish. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit, either for a drink and snacks or for a full meal.
