Don't be fooled by the odd name -- "Gaffer District." The area along Corning's main street, which is Market Street, is attractive for walking and shopping. Revitalized, but with few national chains interrupting block after block of mostly local retailers and other establishments. Sadly, the better coffee shop is not in the middle but at the far west end. A good place to still and wander. Don't miss the public plaza separating East Market from West Market, about two blocks west of Cedar Street, which is the approach visitors are likely to take to get to Market.
Parking in a city lot is available on Cedar one block south of Market in a lot across from the old City Hall, now the Rockwell Museum of American Western and Native American Art.
The electronic pay meter in the lot only accepts coins, not plastic.
